Congratulations Councillor Shelton ...

A private ad (1/3rd of a page) was included on page 4 of the Chronicle on Saturday 7 January.

It congratulates Councillor Shelton for questioning the Mayor's recycled sewage proposal.

The ad included the following:

"He has raised the most important real issue with regard water and that is, regardless of what scheme is implemented, new supplies of water will have to be provided.

There are other options; we are having this rammed down out necks. From day one, the Mayor stated on national television words to the effect we would drink recycled and treated sewage effluent in our water or buy bottled water.

We have been told another dam is not an option and all other options are too expensive.

Fine to say that they will have to buy bottled water, what about those people who cannot afford to buy bottled drinking water on a permanent basis?"

That an individual feels it necessary to buy advertising space in the local paper to ensure their voice is heard shows how angry people are with the Mayor's proposal.

The medea in gerenal in this area have done everything to put out the Council story. They are so biased and should be reported to the ethics committee and maybe someone will. This paid add which would have cost $2000.00 is a prime example of how far people have to go to get the real facts out.

Did anyone else see that letter to the editor in the Chronicle on 9 Jan?

The guy blames the name of CADS for making people think Toowoomba will be drinking recycled sewage because he doesn't think the Mayor's plan involves recycled water for drinking.

There are none so blind as those who cannot see (or read a little)!

Then again, maybe some of the other Councillors think the same way - it's obvious they haven't done too much reading on the issue.

Good on you Lyle Shelton - keep asking the questions and maybe the truth will come out.
