Toowoomba Water Futures website misleads again ...
The Toowoomba City Council workers sure work hard!
Look at how frequently they updated the dam levels on the Toowoomba Water Futures website over the Christmas holidays:

Are they really updating the dam levels as regularly as they say or is this just a computer updated date and time?
It's interesting that the dam levels don't move at all.
More misleading information from the Toowoomba City Council?
8 Comments:
The information you are quoting is from the table of dam capacities, which do not change over time. The volume in the dams do change daily, but not the dam capacities

Apologies - I included the figures below the update comment - because they were smaller (and fit the blog page better) but the percentage of capacity figures above the updated comment on the Toowoomba Water Futures website also remain the same. I have now added these.
The point is clear - the Toowoomba Water Futures website says that the amounts of water in the dams is being regularly updated by the Council (even on public holidays!) - and they are not.
The Council is once again misleading the public.

I think that it is a bit harsh to comment that the council is misleading the public in relation to the dam levels during the period from 26 Dec to 3 Jan. If Toowoomba's average daily consumption of water occurred over that period, total usage would be in the vicinity of 300 ML, which works out to be about 0.8% of the current volume in storage. If consumption was offset a little by some inflow, then it is possible that the storage volume has not fallen then anymore then 0.5%, so for all intents and purposes it is fair to report that volumes have remained stable over the Christmas New Year period. I would not think that reporting such could be construed as being misleading.

It is misleading to use an automatic update for the date and time, leading people to believe that the Council is regularly updating the information when it is not.
The holiday period was merely a good example of this issue.
The point remains - the Council claims through its website to be continually updating the dam levels - when clearly it is not.
Here are the latest figures from the Toowoomba Water Futures website:

Did the Council really update these figures as at 12.39 pm today? No. So, most likely, this is a misleading view of the actual dam levels as at 12.39 pm.
This is just today's example of the Council misleading the public on the water issue. There have been others and no doubt there will be more.
Such is the culture of misinformation within the Council on the issue of water resources.

The actual dam levels may be much higher or lower - but how would you know?

Aren't we lucky good old Clive had enough sense to implement the construction of Cressbrook or we would be out of water now. It is a shame that Di is so DUMB in thinking the little bit of water she will get from recycling will suffice for future growth of this city and hold us out in dry times like now. Perhaps she is FOUL enough to think that she could use Brisbane's waste water for recycling into our Dams.
Perhaps that is a long term goal of her and Peter who seemed to be married on there push to make Tooowomba residents drink recyled effluent. A pitty they won't be around long enough!

The proposal to introduce recycled water into Toowoomba's drinking water is nothing more than a scheme to use Toowoomba residents as the lab rats for the rest of Australia.
Why the need for a $3 million recycled water visitors centre? So that other Councils can visit and see how the experiment is going.
7:50 PM, January 03, 2006
Where is the visitors centre going to be built?
