TCC's Flanagan - the glass is always half empty ...

Following the recent rains in Toowoomba and surrounding areas, Toowoomba City Council engineering head Kevin Flanagan was quick to scotch any suggestion that the rain would lead to an increase in dam levels:

'Council's Director of Engineering Kevin Flanagan said there had been no run-off in the catchment areas.'

See - Welcome rain sparks smiles all round.

Perhaps he personally inspected the entire catchment area of Toowoomba's three dams before coming to this conclusion.

Or perhaps he's just maintaining the same 'broken record' approach used during the recycled water debate when members of the Council and other Yes campaigners were openly hoping that it would not rain.

Just a thought ...

Excerpt from ABC News:

Rains add a week's worth of water to SE Qld dams

7 June 2007

Heavy rain in Brisbane and south-east Queensland has added about a week's worth of water into the system.

Mike Foster from SEQWater says rain in the past 48 hours has added 3,000 megalitres into the combined dam system.

Another 2,000 megalitres is also expected to arrive in the system from run-off.

Mr Foster says it is the most rain Wivenhoe, Somerset and North Pine Dams have received since October 2005, but it is not as good as expected.

"It's not as good as we we hoped given the rainfall forecast, but unfortunately less than half the rainfall eventuated overnight," he said.

"Still - giving us seven to eight days [is] nothing to be sneezed at, given the current conditions we're in."

One has to smile as these are the same people who made statements of" What if it never rains again".
How ready stupid of them as even if one believes in global warming, they say that there will be rain and that it could be dramatic.

Thorley and her yes case team said over and over " It may never rain again"!!!!

Look - the heavens could open up and fill the dams - And the Yes people will say - "Not enough run-off" -
Scare the people long enough and maybe some will believe you

It seems to a constant theme - those that watch the weather radar know what is happening - see it going over our three dams. It is funny how we never seem to get anything out of it - and the wonderful media just keep singing the same old song
