Darling Downs celebrates rain ...

Excerpt from the Courier Mail:

Warra's river flows at last

7 June 2007

Soaking rain across the Darling Downs and central Queensland has boosted the spirits of farmers and towns crippled for years by drought.

In the town of Warra, 40km west of Dalby, where water tankers were bringing water for the town every two days, 90mm of rain in the district has filled the town's weir to 50 per cent.

On Saturday, a picture on The Courier-Mail's front page showed the town's weir on the Condamine River bone dry. Yesterday water was flowing again.

Council water manager Tim Lowe cancelled the water tanker yesterday and re-started the town's water-treatment plant.

By 9am, the water level had risen by 3m in the weir and was above the pump inlet which had been high and dry last week.

By noon, the water was lapping 1m from the top and rising. Water restrictions that have stopped residents using outdoor water since last year will be relaxed to allow bucket watering for two hours every second day.
