Mayor Thorley declares her job done ...
... it's up to others to fix the problems now.
Toowoomba's Mayor Thorley uses today's Chronicle to declare that she's done all she can for Toowoomba.
An excerpt:
Yesterday local members and Toowoomba Mayor Dianne Thorley were asked for their "wish list" of allocations.
Don't forget the Second Range Crossing was the united call of politicians in the opposition.
Not that they were expecting any allocations; that ball is firmly in Federal Member for Groom Ian Macfarlane's domain, but the road must be the top road priority for the State Government.
Cr Thorley was easily pleased, claiming there was no outstanding issues for council.
"The State's long-term water solution for us is Wivenhoe Dam.
"The Second Range Crossing is basically up to the Feds," she said.
See - Mayor Thorley - "I'm done".
It will be interesting to see if Toowoomba voters are as easily pleased as Mayor Thorley.
Although Mayor Thorley may think she's achieved her goals for Toowoomba, others may disagree.
There are two articles in today's Chronicle which show how much she has NOT done for Toowoomba.
Budget funds are to be allocated to build an artificial turf track in Toowoomba - due to the drought. The Toowoomba Hockey Association is also concerned that its hockey fields - currently kept alive with bore water and now subject to new restrictions - may die.
See - Toowoomba's artificial turf track and Toowoomba's hockey fields - examples of Mayor Thorley's failures.
Had Mayor Thorley triumphed a plan for the use of recycled water for non-potable use - using recycled water for turf tracks and playing fields etc - these two particular examples may not have arisen.
Such was her vision of herself as the leader of the Australian push to force people to drink recycled water that everything else was forgotten.
That is her legacy ... that and two hunks of granite awkwardly positioned in Ruthven Street ...
3 Comments:
Thorley's accomplishments!
Not in any order of significance!
(1)Dead tree stumps in the city center.
(2)Inadequate inner city parking and massive parking meter expansion covering the entire CBD district.
(3)Messy decidious trees in the city heart creating havoc for shop ownwers and pedestrians alike.
(4)Proliferation of low-rise commercial buildings in the outer CBD fringes leading to a decline in inner city housing.
(5)Proliferation of low rise units in the suburbs severley impacting on suburban lifestyle.
(6)Failure to move the cities airport to a more suitable location.
(7)Increasing traffic problems in the suburbs due to the failure to cater for population growth with proper road infrastructure.
(8)Stifling of unit development with a rediculously low limit on the height of high-rise structures.
(9)Excellent pay rises for her and her fellow councillors.
(10)Continued denial and acceptance of our wishes not to have recycled effluent put into our drinking supply and an inability to want to use the stuff for non-drinking purposes.
Should I go on and has anyone else got anything positive to add?

Thorley has ruined any re-election chance in 2008 for herself and her gaggle of supporting Councillors.
That's a positive.
