Recycling process fails at barrier ...

Recent Letter to the Editor, the Chronicle:

Recycling process fails at barrier

I wish to draw the attention of Queenslanders who are about to have recycled water injected into their drinking supply to an extract from the Queensland Government publication www.qwc.qld.gov.au "how is drinking water made?"

The first step involves preventing harmful chemicals from entering the wastewater system. Strict regulations prohibit the discharge of certain non-domestic wastes into the wastewater system.

These include business, industry, hospital, pharmaceutical, clinical, biological and chemical.

There are strict regulations prohibiting a wide range of activities, however, regulations are contravened on a regular basis. Therefore the laws will be broken and these substances will be in the system.

This process fails at this barrier.

You could face the prospect of terrorists calmly dumping all types of lethal cocktails down the toilet in the privacy of their own homes - quite rightly the recycled sewage water falls down at the first hurdle - it should never have stood up in the hurdle race in the first place
