Beattie's Climate Change Centre for Politics ...

Qld State opposition accuses Premier Beattie's new Climate Change Centre of Excellence of being less than excellent - working the numbers to show the drought as 'unique' and please their boss.

See - Courier Mail - Rain claims disputed.

Talking about 'unique'.
Someome once said to me that it was Thorley causing the drought but the usual scientific minded me just brushed it aside as a drought. I did however decide to test that persons theory with scientific data and the results I suppose you could say "speak for themselves".
I put together all the rainfall figures going back as far as records would allow with the same time period of how long she has been mayor, seven years, and I came up with the following rainfall data figures for Toowoomba:
1895 to 1901 = 5574mm
1902 to 1908 = 5872mm
1909 to 1915 = 5764mm
1916 to 1922 = 5422mm
1923 to 1929 = 6298mm
1930 to 1936 = 6226mm
1937 to 1943 = 6259mm
1944 to 1950 = 7202mm
1951 to 1957 = 7073mm
1957 to 1964 = 6493mm
1965 to 1971 = 6063mm
1972 to 1978 = 7301mm
1979 to 1985 = 7211mm
1986 to 1992 = 5694mm
1993 to 1999 = 5619mm
2000 to 2006 = 4561mm

Notice the time frame of 2000 to 2006 it is by far the driest seven year period on record for this city and it is the same time frame in which Di Thorley has been our mayor. With 2007 already being 258mm below the normal of 346 until the end of March one would expect that time frame to extend another year and the figure to look even worse.
Now I am not sure what most people would say about this type of data analysis but my scientific mind cannot find a truly logical answer to the co-relationship of our rainfall figures and the fact that Di Thorley has been our mayor in exactly the same time period. Perhaps some other scientific minds from the meteorolgical world could help us out or perhaps you can all just make up your own mind as I am interstingly looking forward to keeping track of this data as our mayoralty maybe about to change. It may be just rapid climate change, a prolonged drought, just coincidence or 'unique' but one thing is for sure the depreciated rainfall figures have been there for all to see and have been occuring since she was mayor and they were not acted on accordingly, whether by lack of knowlege on her or her council members part or just lack of insufficient warning from the bureau of meterology. The effects of this dry we are now in could have been acted on accordingly a long time before they got this bad.
