As predicted, none of the Councillors opposing the Mayor's recycled sewage proposal have been invited to go to Japan.
The Mayor and Councillors Englart and Albion will go - a reward for those holding the line?
Why is it that marking sister city relations with Takatsuki City involves travelling to Tokyo, Osaka, Takatsuki and Kyoto?
From the Toowoomba City Council's website:
Join Council friendship tour to Japan
Toowoomba people have the rare opportunity of joining a Friendship Tour to Japan in early April 2006.
Toowoomba City Council is inviting members of the public to accompany the Council delegation to Japan, marking 15 years of Sister City relations with Takatsuki City.
The seven day tour departs April 3 and takes in the cities of Tokyo, Osaka, Takatsuki and Kyoto. It returns to Brisbane on April 10.
A highlight of the organised tour will be the Takatsuki Cherry Blossom Festival, a symbol of Japanese springtime and beauty.
Those joining the tour will accompany Mayor Dianne Thorley, Crs Sue Englart and Regina Albion, three council officers and the Carnival Ambassador as they visit famous Japanese palaces, gardens, temples, shrines and shopping districts.
The tour will include a Mayoral Reception and welcome dinner with Takatsuki City Council. Some free time and sightseeing are included in the itinerary.
Visitors can enjoy the comfort and convenience of an organised tour.
The approximate cost is $4,500 and includes airfare, accommodation, some transfers, tours, travel insurance and some meals.
Expression of interest forms and more information are available from the International Secretariat of the Council on 4688 6747.
Expression of interest forms must be returned to Council by February 3 2006.

Why on earth would anyone want to go anywhere with that trio! But they have to go don't they, someone has to convince Takatsuki council why they shouldn't start calling Toowoomba, Poowoomba and break off the sister city thingy!

I would like to know one major contract this city has with all of these trips to and fro from Talatsuki over the past 15 years . What businss knowlege do these three bring to this visit so that they can stich up a contract while they are there. Answer none!!!
It is a payoff for their loyality. I would like to see them ask the Japanese if they would go down this road of reclaimed water just like we are planning?

Reported in the Courier Mail:
The Premier's only instruction to photographer Sellick before the shutter clicked, according to the photographer, was: "Just don't make me look like a dickhead."
How about we all make Beattie look like a dickhead at the next electon for his Government's support for Toowoomba residents drinking recycled sewage.

What a waste of ratepayer money, and who are the council employees going, is it the engineer? I wonder if it is all good council employees who have been crawling to the mayor and her crew.
I have nothing against the Carnival ambassador going, she deserves it, but not the rest.
It would be more sense if this money was spent on helping residents save water. Eg bringing back the rebate for dual flush toilets.
This council doesn't care! Bring on the next election.

I would like to see the likes of Henry Palaszczuc, Peter Beattie, Jeff Nolan, Linda McPherson and Andrew Bartlett all go along with that trio and them all stay there.

From the Toowoomba City Council's website:
On ringing Toowoomba city Council and inquiring about costs disclosed in Chronicle & on their own web site which states $4,500
it should state $4,500 per person or times 7 for each of the 7 people it appears the ratepayers are footing the bill of $31,500 as the true costs estimate.
