Toowoomba's outgoing Mayor - 'Hitler had the right idea' ...

Outrageous to the end.

Toowoomba's outgoing Mayor comments that Hitler had the right idea with the Night of the Long Knives and wishes she'd had a few swords at the time of the Water Futures debacle.

Excerpt from AIM debate speech:

Those of you who had anything to do with what was happening in Toowoomba a little while ago, that know that there were a great deal of people who were coming out fighting, or so they thought.

But actually had never reached the great heights of someone such as Adolph Hitler who actually had the ability to do the Night of the Long Knives where he got out there and put them to the sword.

And I can assure you I wish I'd had a few bloody swords because I'd have taken it to a few people - metaphorically of course, not literally.

Who would ever have the Mayor of Toowoomba end up in Boggo Road. Oh bugger, that's closed isn't it.

See - Toowoomba's outgoing Mayor - Hitler had the right idea.

For more information on the Night of the Long Knives see - Wikipedia - Night of the Long Knives - when the Nazi regime executed at least 85 people for political reasons - setting up Hitler for a period of unquestioned and unchallenged power and unbelievable atrocities against mankind.

Great leadership - a Mayor who wanted to kill her political opponents (metaphorically speaking of course) and a Deputy Mayor who threatened to drop rocks on them.

Time for wholesale change ...

This comment was received earlier from someone clearly pleased that the election is next Saturday.

The sooner that evil horrible person (I wouldn't call her a woman - an insult to women) is gone the better.

What a horrible twisted tongue and mind she has, and fancy threatening us who dared speak out against her outrageous project.

Her day will come. Maybe one day when she is helpless in a nursing home a staff member might decide they are doctor death and inflict pain and misery on her!

She has tarnished the image of Toowoomba so badly. Her language is just disgusting. And people think she is a hero - they must also be twisted.

Can't wait until next Saturday to kiss the rest of the six pack good riddance!

If you watch the video, you'll see it pans to the other debaters - the looks on their faces are priceless with at least one looking like she was regretting the decision to get on the stage.

What a ridiculous speech. Even if you ignore the obscenities and real hatred still exhibited towards her opponents, the speech was just rubbish. Hardly worthy of any first speaker in a debate. She doesn't realise that the audience is not laughing with her, it's laughing at her. Good riddance - no doubt she'll spend the next few years in Tasmania whining about how a few people in Toowoomba ruined her career and future. Tough luck!

First it was her attempt to march the children through the streets like Hitler Youth. Now she's admiring the "great heights" reached by Hitler in slaughtering opponents. And this woman held public office in Australia. Unbelievable.

Toowoomba Mayor Dianne Thorley delivers swan song

March 09, 2008

Toowoomba's tough-talking mayor Dianne Thorley bade farewell to her city with some rock music yesterday.

Cr Thorley met with constituents for the Di Rocks @ Picnic Point, one of the last events after eight years as mayor.

Cr Thorley announced last year she would not contest the mayoralty, instead heading to Franklin, Tasmania, where she will help her son run a pub.

"It's going to be difficult to leave the city but from the very beginning I've said I would only be in council for three terms, so my time is up," she said.

Cr Thorley rose to national prominence for her leadership of the "yes" campaign to add recycled water to the town supply.

The campaign failed with about 61 per cent voting 'no'.

The main 'no' proponent, Cr Snow Manners, is running for the mayoralty against Jondaryan's Peter Taylor and Clifton's Ian Jones.

It comes as the Local Government Association raised concerns over the future representation of women in council leadership positions. In addition to Cr Thorley, Bundaberg's Kay McDuff, Mackay's Julie Boyd, Rockhampton's Margaret Strelow, Laidley's Shirley Pitt and Pine River's Yvonne Chapman will not seek re-election.

Cambooya mayor Carol Taylor, who is a candidate for the Toowoomba Regional Council, said higher workloads and full-time status of amalgamated councils might have led to fewer women choosing to enter.

How many people even bothered to show up?

The bit about 3 terms is absolute rubbish once again. What did she say after the water poll - that she was going to contest this election.

But at least she's almost gone. Whoever follows will be a breathe of fresh air compared to her rough as guts approach to the mayoral office.

Still think the biggest party will be held by the council the day after she's gone.
