The three mayoral candidates have gone head to head for the final time before Saturday's Election for the Toowoomba Regional Council.

In what at times was a heated debate at the University of Southern Queensland last night, the issue of political party backing came to the fore.

The issue of community representation was also a point of contention, with Clifton Mayor, Ian Jones, debunking his rivals proposal to establish community boards.
