You have got to be joking! What possible weight would she bring to council?!
The idea of offering a substantial increase in the pay rates of regional council memebers is to attract intellectual talent. Not persons barely capable of running a cake stall at the local fair!

Rosemary Morley press release:

28th November, 2007

I decided to stand for the Toowoomba Regional Council in the March 2008 election as I firmly believe that we deserve new energy within council to assist with getting on with the job of securing long-term water sources for Toowoomba and the surrounding region amongst other matters.

I came to this decision after observing the Toowoomba City Council doing nothing to address this problem over the last 12 months. We all need to know the reason why this has not been addressed.

A totally new council with Snow Manners as Mayor will take away the politics of the past and I do not believe that representatives at a local level should have a political party dictating the agenda. There is no place for party politics in local government.

I wish to see a more liveable city where the Council listens to the community and throws open the doors to fair-minded and open debate with the business community and the population at large. For too long the Toowoomba City Council and their decisions which affect us all have been cloaked in secrecy.

During the water referendum it was clear that my group and I had significant support from thinking people. The water poll result of 61.80% voting No to drinking recycled sewage water is testament to this. We fought to bring information to the community; despite the extraordinary efforts of a determined and biased majority of the Councillors.

Unfortunately, those same Councillors are still in office and have not accepted the decision of the people in July 2006.

We must be ever vigilant on this matter.

I was born in Toowoomba, married here and worked here all my life. My husband, Rob and I have run a successful small business for past 35 years.

We have raised a family of 2 boys who are married and we have 4 grandchildren. It goes without saying that we are immensely proud of them all.

I have at all times been involved in this community and have served on boards such as the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce, Toowoomba and Golden West Tourism Board, Toowoomba Development Board, T.A.F.E. College Council Board, Toowoomba Base Hospital Foundation, Toowoomba Local Ambulance Committee, St Vincent's Cancer Care Committee and others.

I would bring this same dedication, work ethic and passion to the Toowoomba Regional Council as I have to the other public positions I have held.

Amazing how someone who apparently can't run a cake stall could run a city wide campaign to promote transparency in council and defeat a secretive council campaign to install an infrastructure project against the people's wishes. Maybe Rosemary's not good with the small projects - just the big ones.

Rosemary in Council would be better than any of those other women - none of whom represent the majority views on water

By the way I don't think Kevie would run for Council

I have known Rosemary Morley for years and some of the large promotions she has been responsible for are the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.
Hundreds of businesses nominating and 700+people at the presentation dinner!
She co-ordinated the Australia Day week-end regatta at the Darling Downs Sailing Club when they catered for hundreds of visitors for three meals a day for 3 days. She alone organized the food and the roosters. The club made a bundle.
The big house and land give away for the Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce in 1992 was her responsibility and this city has not seen the likes of it again. It promoted spending money in Toowoomba.
I not sure if she has ever run a cake stall but I am sure many a sporting club knows of her good work!

But a decision on how Toowoomba is to secure long term water has been made. The task force deliberated over the issue, and the recommendation to build a pipeline to Wivenhoe was accepted by state government, and this pipeline will be built.

The water issue for Toowoomba is over. The decision on a solution has been made. What does Morley want to raise it as an issue again. They successfully scuttled the last idea. Do they want to scuttle this idea and leave Toowoombna well and truely dry?
And just becuse you serve on a lot of boards is no reflection on the level of competence you have. From my observations on Morleyduring the recycle debate, and her letters in the Chronicle, I have concluded that she is not a very bright person at all, just very narrow minded on one issue, which has already been solved.

The Traveston Dam has to be built before any pipeline from Wivenhoe is built. It is not even on the agenda until 2012!
The fight to stop that dam has only just begun.
If the rains don't come there will be no water from Wivenhoe for this city as Brisbane will need every drop..

It is well know that we have other options and a NEW council will work to get these for us.
The closed minds of the council will be their downfall.

Rosemary is one of the hardest working people I have ever met, I have been hoping she would run for council. I believe she is really in tune with Toowoomba's needs and I know she will be ready to listen to the voting public if she is elected.
I encourage anyone who is reading the dribble from the bitter and twisted yes voters on this blog and hasn't met her, to find out for yourself who Rosemary Morley is.
A Champion of the Toowoomba way of life and it's people.
GO ROSEMARY!

Well concerned ratepayer I don't know what your stand is going to be but the Waterfutures blog team has met and resolved to use all our resources to ensure Rosemary Morley and Snow Manners get elected to Toowoomba Regional Council.

We haven't spent the last two years fighting city hall for nothing.

If Toowoomba Regional Council is run by Kevvie and a wishy-washy cowboy we will be back to square one and have to fight until 2012.

We may as well sort this out completely over the next 3 months.

We need strong people on council who will question the actions of the bureaucrats. The current council don't have the ability to do this. I want to see the full field running for council but it's ok so far.

Garrett sidelined in environment shake-up

Julia Gillard takes education

Prime Minister-elect Kevin Rudd is naming his front bench in Canberra, with a promotion for Stephen Smith, a super-portfolio for Julia Gillard and a demotion for Peter Garrett.

Mr Garrett has been named as environment, heritage and arts minister, but Mr Rudd has also named senator Peny Wong as minister for climate change and water.

Mr Rudd has said senator Wong will have responsibility for negotiating a new post-Kyoto deal and establishing a carbon emissions trading scheme in Australia.

Mr Garrett will have responsibility for climate change measures such as implementing solar energy and water efficiency programs.

Deputy PM-elect Julia Gillard has added education to her industrial relations portfolio.

It is believed Stephen Smith has been promoted from education to foreign affairs, with former foreign affairs spokesman Robert McClelland returning to the attorney-general portfolio.

Former minister John Faulkner is also rumoured to be returning to the political front line in a senior position. It is believed senator Faulkner may be named as defence minister.

Wayne Swan was named as treasurer and Lindsay Tanner as finance minister before the election. "I can think of no better individuals to occupy these important roles," Mr Rudd has said.

Ex-leader Simon Crean has been named as trade minister. Nicola Roxon retains the health portfolio and will be tasked with implementing Mr Rudd's plan to work with the states to improve hospital standards or assume responsibility for them in two years.

Meanwhile, Brendan Nelson has beaten Malcolm Turnbull in a ballot of MPs to become the new Liberal leader. Julie Bishop has been elected as his deputy.

Former NSW attorney-general Bob Debus is also on the front bench. Labor's star recruits, former journalist Maxine McKew and ex-union bosses Bill Shorten and Greg Combet, are reported to have been made parliamentary secretaries.

Second-term MP Kate Ellis, Brendan O'Connor and Justine Elliott have also been promoted.

The press turns on KRudd already

From news.com.au:

Oh no: Is this what we voted for?

29 November 2007

Kevin Rudd talks and talks and talks

Then he talks some more

Thankfully, it wasn't in Mandarin.

Prime minister-elect Kevin Rudd spoke uninterrupted today for a staggering 30 minutes in a frightening sign of what may be to come in a Labor-ruled Australia.

Announcing his front bench, Mr Rudd almost finished after 25 minutes but remembered he had forgotten to speak about a minister - and started talking again.

Journalists' tape recorders began clicking off in exhaustion as Mr Rudd then took questions for another 20 minutes.

Mr Rudd took the hint and wound up the press conference, saying: "I really need to go, and because two of your tape recorders have already gone off I would suggest that’s been a pretty long discussion we’ve all had this morning.”

The excruciating performance from Mr Rudd, who became a household name through chatty appearances on breakfast television while in opposition, follows his lengthy and unremarkable acceptance speech on Saturday when he was elected.

Australia's new government has Stephen Smith as foreign minister while deputy leader Julia Gillard gets a super-portfolio and Peter Garrett is demoted.

Now that Rosemary has announced that she is running for council out will come the knives of the failed Yes voters. I wish they would really listen to what she has to say. They may learn something. Rosemary is a very caring, hard working lady with the welfare of this community at heart. She could not be bought off by anyone or anything. Go Rosemary!
