Macfarlane retains Groom (updated) ...

Anyone getting less votes than the informals (2,075) should really consider whether they have a place in federal politics.

The results:

Pauline Collins GRN - 3,411

Grahame Arthur Volker IND - 498

Irene Jones CEC - 226

Peter Charles Findlay FFP - 3,181

Rob Berry IND - 575

Shalina Najeeb DEM - 511

Chris Meibusch ALP - 25,135

Rod Jeanneret IND - 411

Ian Macfarlane LIB - 37,431

Informal - 2,075

Total - 71,379

Turnout - 81.69%

See - AEC - Groom.

Quick summary:

- Labor wins government.

- Turnbull returned with small swing.

- Howard may lose his seat.

- Bartlett loses his senate spot.

Rudd now has 3 years to see if he can resist the unions which put him in power and save Australia from a wage-push inflationary spiral which will knock Australia into recession.

Time will tell.

It seems unlikely that the Toowoomba range bypass will now be built.

And the Brisbane Mayor is now the most senior Liberal in a position of government in Australia ...

Well the Beattie ploy worked - take him out of the equation for Queensland - and give Rudd the Dud a clean shot at winning Qld seats -and guess what Beattie will suddenly reappear

I sincerely believe that Australian voters must be some of the most dumbest in the world - whoever controls the media, controls the minds of the peasants

It would appear that Qld especially have treated this as a State of Origin game - vote for Rudd the Queenslander who eats wax out of his ear

All I can say is - thanks John for the best years of Australia's economic future - that you presided over - a lot of those socalled battlers have deserted you as they continue to drive their big - 4- wheel drives

Sad also that the Coalition which drove this economy - saved the country from the wreck that it was in and left by Paul Keating - have to try to resurrect themselves again -is it worth the effort to get kicked in the guts?

I guess the country deserves what it gets

By taking Beattie out of the this election they made the Amalgamation debarkle not an issue in the voters minds. Very clever!

Beattie will now be off to the big job overseas!

Well done Labor - very slick campaign. Wonder if you'll be able to hold back the union tide.

I have been talking to a lot of people today and they and including myself are very worried about the economic outlook for Australia.

We will know tighten our spending habits as we are in business and don't know what is going to happen.

Our children were going to have a private secondary education if Howard was elected, and that aren't happening now.

Speaking of education the state schools are under pressure to ensure that they don't have too many teachers next year. The state govt must be in financial trouble.

So to all those labour dickheads you can have higher interest rates, look forward to 12.5% GST, have no housing affordability, have lots of strikes now, and higher unemployment and a govt in debt. I could go on all day!

Rob Berry was never going to score highly. Any councillor who is breathing easier better have a serious rethink. March is going to be a wipeout and every time the council does something dodgy or at secret meetings the voters just get madder.

The ALP looks set to pick up four new Senate positions, building on its 28 seats in the 76-seat chamber.

But the Coalition will hold on to its majority of 39 until next July – putting the Labor Government on a collision course with its rival.

Mr Rudd's plan to ratify the Kyoto protocol and scrap industrial relations laws may not happen until the second half of 2008, as the Coalition firmly opposes both policies. Once the new Senate takes shape, Mr Rudd will have to negotiate new laws with the Greens, an Independent and Family First, who will hold the balance of power.
