Controversial twist

In a controversial twist, it's been revealed Toowoomba City Council has agreed to pump water to the Acland Coal Mine two levels cleaner than it can currently provide.

Council now forced to build a fifteen million dollar extension to their Wetalla Water Treatment plant.

The question which has to be answered is:-
"Why has it taken 16 months for Flanagan and Thorley to realize that this extension to the Wetalla facility would be needed?" They alone were responsible for negotiations between the Toowoomba City Council and New Hope Coal. When the contract was signed off over a month ago it was not made apparent that $10-15M would be needed to clean the waste water to Class A+ standard.
Our old pals CH2M Hill are up to their necks in this new arrangement and the 8 Councillors have no compunction about spending this money just before a "NEW" Regional Council is to be elected. This is a huge sum of money when at the time the contract was signed the council was lead to believe that the cost would be $1-2M!

They believe that if the Local Government Minister signs off on it then it will be OK.

I have big news for these councillors - the community will not forget what they have done when they go to vote next March. One lone Councillor had the courage and sense to stand up and ask the question of this engineering report and that was Cr Snow Manners.

Acland never wanted the waste water. Council knew and covered it up.
