Qld water project 'in doubt' ...

Excerpt from the Sydney Morning Herald:

The Queensland government says it is likely to scrap a key water project designed to help drought-proof the state's south-east after studies raised environmental concerns.

Premier Anna Bligh said Stradbroke Island's eastern pipeline interconnector was now in doubt after preliminary drilling found it would deplete water levels in Blue Lake to "unsustainable levels".

Ms Bligh said the government was urgently assessing other water sources, including a further expansion of the Gold Coast desalination plant and the treatment of more recycled water by the Loganholme water treatment plant.
