Sometimes art is about the mystery of things, GlenisD.

Then again, some of us read the placard to add the artist's statement to our own impressions.

This is not what the Carnival of Flowers is supposed to be about.
We are supposed to be looking flower beds and not this crazy stuff.
By the way did any-one read in the Carnival of Flowers guide that they draw the water from the Great Artesian basin and that the water delivered to the carnival gardens amounted to a pittance. Well the truth is that they were telling porkies again. The water is the same as it has always been and the engineer will tell you if you ask that it's in short supply.

This is just another case of the Council misleading the community and just watch this space when they come down with the shortage of water story next week!!!!

Poor, poor concerned ratepayer et al. Go into your lounge rooms and gaze admiringly at your k-mart frangipani print and breathe...you know how it's done...in...out...out...out...out. What a shame Toowoomba is full of narrow minded philistines

"we are watching ", I'd guess there's a lot to be done in xeriscape gardens, and I would like to see more horti-, in addition to the other -cultures, but hang on a moment!

Where do you want the line drawn? Should music stay or go? Food? Wine? Should those remarkably non-floral pipe bands be part of the parade unless, like that wonderful band I saw, they wear Hawaiian shirts over their kilts?

Toowoomba has a job: to put on a show. Those landed with the task did admirably, and from what I saw, there were still more flowers than one person could fully appreciate.

Is there some suggestion I'm on somebody's payroll? (Not "packet" by the way, please try to keep up.)

Thank heavens I was alerted. There's been no money or favours received over here yet.

I don't know that particular artist and my wife has no connection to the Carnival either.

Can the anonymous person possibly encompass the idea that an ordinary citizen could disagree with them as a matter of private opinion?

narrow minded philistines?

For the record the 4350water blog heartily approves of this sculpture. It shows people in Toowoomba DO have a sense of humour!

The 4350water blog does not however approve of k-mart frangipani prints!

The people in the silly Hawaiian shirts in the Scotch band had to wear them as it was an edict from the Brisbane based company who organizes the Carnival of Flowers.
It is not run by the community of Toowoomba as it always was.
This is why our crazy Mayor can claim it to be "her carnival" as she is in constant communication with this business who is on the "payroll" on the Council.
By the way I always thought the Australian term was pay packet!

Most people just think that these displays are silly and it would not take much talent to dream them up.

to an artists hubby, we would like to see a council who tell the people the amount of water it takes to put on this Carnival of Flowers and not one who tell lies about the amount of water available in one publication and then when queried tell the real story.

The fact is that the silly shower rose thingy should have been every where and the food and wine should have run free to all the community for all we have had to endure over the term of Mayor Thorley.

the carnival is a chance to down the hate for a week

Ms Anonymous, Amen sister! Down the hate, paranoia and conspiracy theories during carnival. Can we also down the naivete that dictates there are "goodies" and "baddies" and stop being afraid of anything that's different?

I like the bikes on the roundabout better. However, the Carnival was a great success and enjoyed by all who participated. A case of the community coming together to enjoy themselves, unlike the terrible division caused by the recycled water debate. It will really be a "bed of roses" in Toowoomba when the drought ends. We have a beautiful city.

Go out and talk to the people in Toowoomba and you will find a city where the average person resents that this council acted with out due care for the water resources.

We have saved every drop and we have not had water to run on our gardens so there is very real anger from any-one who wants to have a beautiful garden but can only have what will grow with out much care. These are the same people who have lost valuable plant because the bucket brigade did not get enough water to them in time. It has cost thousands and devalued their property. So don't preach that it is wonderful as it is only for the precious few and a few naive people who are not gardeners!!

I wait to see how the water levels will be described next week as you can not have extra people drawing from our supply and the level not drop significantly!

time to look to the future - beyond next March

The count down has begun and new people are lining up for the positions on the council.
The word on most people's lips is that we will not be returning any of the six pack to the new mega shire council. (Ramia, Schneider, Alroe, Englart Albion and of course Thorley has thrown herself on her sword so to speak.)
They can rattle off their names and will make sure that they are not ticked on the ballot paper.

We have a good candidate for mayor with Snow Manners indicating that he will run and we need a team of like minded people to work with him.
The count down has begun and it's not that many days to go.

We will. We will make sure that there is a new era in local government politics in Toowoomba and the surrounding region. We have had enough of people who push their own agenda without considering the views of the people. The election next March is the ultimate judgement of the accomplishments (or lack thereof) of the current council.
