On Tuesday, Mr Rann ruled out using recycled effluent as drinking water in Adelaide.

I read with interest the Greens party's Mr Parnell statement that it is more expensive to do desalination when all in the know say that they have no idea as to the true cost of running a recycled sewage plant. The membrane technology is so new that the time frame in which they would have to be replaced is uncertain and the down time due to clogging of them would have to be factored in also.
The desalination option is acceptable to most of the community and the power to run such a scheme could come from a number of options.
The one in Western Australia is using wind and wave power.
