Cocky Labor jostles for jobs
25 September 2007
Confident Labor MPs have begun carving up the spoils of office, even before John Howard has fired the election starter's gun.
As the Prime Minister yesterday moved to shore up support in his own at-risk electorate by campaigning via a town hall-style public meeting, some in Kevin Rudd's Labor caucus have apparently declared the election result a fait accompli.
Two of Mr Rudd's closest supporters on Labor's backbench – Roger Price and Gavin Marshall – are being talked up for two of the Parliament's most prestigious, and highly-paid, jobs – Speaker of the House and Senate President.
The casualties from the push would be Harry Jenkins and Right-aligned Queensland senator John Hogg.
The pre-election push has angered senior figures from within Labor ranks, who warn voters will crucify the party if it becomes cocky. "There is a lot of triumphalism from Rudd supporters," one said.

This is the party that cares about Australians? Not! They comprise 80% ex-Trade Union officials who are out for what they can get and for what damage they can do
to the people they hate - the employers. If you vote in Rudd's party the Cabinet will be entirely composed of Unionists. They will be just as deadly as the smiling assassin Julia Gillard. Do you really believe they have the welfare of fair dinkum Aussies at heart? The Unions will ride roughshed over everybody as they are all Socialists (another name for Communist) Rudd will have no power over his so called Cabinet! Read the Karl Marx manifesto which advises: Use any means at all to gain power - lies, innuendo, blackmail, extortion, thuggery and smile while you are doing it! Read The Enemy Within. The ALP will make Hitler seem like a pussy cat if they gain complete power over Australians. Look at what has happened in Qld over the recycled sewage water for drinking and forced amalgamations for example.
