Toowoomba has ample water supplies ...

Letter to the Editor, the Chronicle, 2 August 2007

City has ample water supplies

Toowoomba has not run out of water.

Toowoomba has ample water supplies from remaining dam supplies, bores and, if needed, the Great Artesian Basin to get us through the drought. All the options remain on the table.

For the past 12 months since the poll, the Yes case councillors have thrown up their hands, declaring the issue of long-term water solutions all too hard, and looked to Premier Beattie for help.

Based on the cost of Beattie's recycled water plants, it is clear that the proposed Water Futures plant could never have been built for the amount stated by the Yes case team and was therefore not the cheapest option - something these councillors used as the main reason for wanting people to vote Yes.

We look forward to a new council in March 2008 which will address longer-term water solutions for Toowoomba and surrounds.

The CADS group is proud that it was able to bring the vote to the community last year.
