More example woes for Toowoomba City Council - this time it's the Upper Occoquan Sewage Authority ...
Another of the Toowoomba City Council's recycled sewage examples is encountering water quality problems.
This time it's the Upper Occoquan Sewage Authority in Virginia USA which discharges treated recycled sewage into the waterways of Virginia, including the Occoquan Reservoir.
The Occoquan Reservoir is an important drinking water supply for more than one million people who live and work in Northern Virginia. The Occoquan Reservoir supplies about 40% of the clean drinking water for 1.2 million people and, in an emergency, can supply the whole demand.
The Occoquan Reservoir is currently listed on Virginia's Dirty Water List.
See - Virginia's Dirty Water List - 2004.
See also - List of Category 5 impaired waters.
Also look at the results for the various sections of the Potomac River.
Water is drawn from these resources and retreated but the quality being discharged into the rivers seems suspect.
It's interesting how little of the Virginia waterways water attains "designated uses" and how much of Virginia's water falls into the categories of "insufficient testing" or "impaired or threatened waters".
What a wonderful example for Toowoomba ...
