Toowoomba City Council to explain misleading campaign ...

... but not until after the Referendum.

Originally scheduled for 28 and 29 June, Barry Crook's session will now be a post-referendum wrap up.

The content of the discussion may change depending on the 29 July referendum outcome.

TWO DAY BENCHMARKING WORKSHOP – Wed 2 & Thur 3 August – Brisbane

COMMUNICATIONS (Best communications internally and externally)

Workshop Host/Venue: Brisbane.

Hosted by Superpartners, Level 11 Board Room – 120 Edward St (cnr Charlotte St), Brisbane.

PROGRAM DAY TWO - Thursday 3 August

Toowoomba City Council – external and internal communications for sensitive waste water recycling campaign.

Communications in a Controversial Campaign

10.50 am

Barry Crook, Communications Manager Water Futures Program, TOOWOOMBA CITY COUNCIL

Barry will discuss communication for the Water Futures campaign, the first time in history that the addition of recycled water into a water supply has been put to a people's vote.

[Note - this is not strictly correct as it ignores several Council elections in Australia and elsewhere where councillors were voted out of office because of their plans to make people drink recycled sewage.]

He will discuss how the campaign is being developed and communicated and how they have overcome hurdles and responded to initiatives from the competing “No” campaign.

He will also discuss how they have positioned ambassadors in the community and the communication processes with them.

Source - Communications in a controversial campaign.

There will no doubt be many more seminar sessions post-referendum, however, these are most likely to focus on why the approach taken by Mayor Thorley and her Yes campaign team has NOT been the best approach ...

I think these people would do better to have the principle players in the No team to teach them how to run a campaign and put the facts out there.
This has been the dirtiest political fight I have ever witnessed.

Yes it is certainly dirty to not want the citizens of this city to drink recycled effluent! It is dirty to know there other options and let everyone know! It is dirty to realise that Water Futures will harm this cities economy! It is dirty to realise that Water Futures doesn't solve our short or long-term water requirements! It is dirty to not want to be test rats for an untested technology! It is dirty to tell everyone that no-one else reclaims water from effluent at 25%! It is dirty to let everyone know that Singapore doesn't recycle industrial or hospital waste and only reclaim 1% where as TCC will reclaim 25% with both the afore stated included! Blah-blah blah-blah - the dirty list from the NO goes on and on!

Get real belle_74!! The only victims here are the fools who believe TCC and there private little group of self-centered supporters who couldn't give a damn about this city and its economy and stature or the needs, wishes or health of the people in it!
The yes case leaders are spending almost one million dollars of ratepayers money as they see fit to try and bribe the citizens into voting for them while there are homeless children sleeping on the streets - the no case leaders are doing no such thing. You can rag Clive as much as you like, chances are he has done more for this city and its economy and kids then you could ever dream of!

The Thorley team's last gasp effort is to try to convince people that the leading No campaigners are all evil.

Standard political stuff.

However, to run that argument convincingly you need to have the moral high ground and Mayor Thorley's tactics from day one ceded that to her opposition.

Let's break this comment down:

"I have to agree this is certainly a dirty fight"

No argument there.

"and the NO case leaders are great at it."

Not really - they seem to spend a lot of time responding to the dirty tricks of the Thorley team.

"I would never have believed things could get so personal or emotional."

Agree. (Ruby does seem to cry a lot.)

"I would be ashamed to be associated with the NO case"

We'll find out on 29 July just how many people are ashamed.

"and there [sic] dirty tactics"

Examples?

"like the fact that No Manners doesnt [sic] have a blogspot"

What's the dirty tactic?

Nice little Yes campaign belittling touch - 'Snow Manners' becomes 'No Manners'. Just can't seem to help themselves.

"or that certain other leaders use personal information to try to cripple a mans [sic] business which has nothing to do with this POLL."

Referring to the Deputy Mayor's bottled water business?

Ask the person in the street whether they think bottled water sales will rocket under the Thorley plan.

"Yes there have been many dirty tactics and they have all come from the NO LEADERS"

Wonderful examples so far.

Must still be annoyed they had cancel marching the children through town.

"....interesting really how they arent [sic] the leaders of anything but there [sic] own personal agendas"

Some might disagree about the Mayor's and the Chief Engineer's 'agenda'.

"we all know Clive doesnt [sic] have his own personal agenda like making more money....as he wouldnt [sic] do that because he donates money to this city he loves so much....thats [sic] why he donated all that money to Brisbane's Hospitals and not ours as we all know we dont [sic] need it."

Hmm, attacking Clive for donating $10 million to a Brisbane hospital. You're going to have to try harder than saying he is evil because he gave $10 million to a Brisbane hospital rather than a Toowoomba one. That really is desperate.

"Heaven forbid Clive doesnt [sic] sell one more block of land he may just go broke! Good to see he sold Wilsonton Shopping Centre same as he did Village Fair cause we all know he wasnt [sic] just in it for the MONEY."

Attacking Clive really isn't going to get you anywhere. It has become one of the engines increasing the No vote.

Don't you have any good reasons for adopting the Thorley plan?

"And Clive will tell you how he supported Cressbrook dam as well love how he backflipped on that one when it meant the death of his political run if he didnt [sic]."

The anti-Clive rhetoric won't work. Take the free hint while there is still time.

"Dirty politics are every where unfortunately the YES case are the victims of it this time round and as they dont [sic] play these games you will only here [sic] from the NO case when it suits them."

Oh, it's the "pity us" angle - we are the victims. Not sure that will get much sympathy from the community given the Thorley campaign tactics to date.

Only hear from the No case when it suits them? Aren't we still waiting to hear from Mayor Thorley whose minders seem to have told her to take a back seat to try to limit the Thorley fallout on 29 July?

Amazing stuff ...

I don't know who belle_74 is , but they should give some thought to the fact that one of the councillor's making decisions about our water future has a vested interest in as much as he sells bottled water and is one of the highest users of our precious water supply.
Shame , shame on you.

belle 74, if you wish to make openly defamatory remarks about No campaigners, please put them on your own blog.

You are welcome to record your support of the Yes campaign if you wish but 4350water blog reserves the right to delete inappropriate comments.
