Toowoomba City Council considering moratorium on development ...

... at least until the results of the referendum are known.

Tucked away on page 118 of the minutes of the Council Committee meetings held on 2 and 3 May 2006 is Council's latest scare tactic:

- serious consideration needs to be given to a moratorium on development [in Toowoomba and neighbouring shires] at least until the results of the water poll are known.

See Council Committee meeting minutes.

Toowoomba City Council has failed to plan for the expansion of Toowoomba in recent years, particularly during the most recent housing boom.

It now proposes to shift that blame to the building industry and scare Toowoomba and neighbouring shire residents by declaring a moratorium on new development, thus putting thousands of jobs in the building industry in jeopardy.

Curiously, it is considering doing this only until the results of the referendum are known.

Council's latest tactic - Vote yes or you'll lose your job.

How low will Council go in trying to scare the community into accepting their controversial recycled sewage project ...

Low, they are as low as they can go. Now there trying dig deeper. I believe in my mind the CJC are watching, waiting to pounce. The council is the edge of criminal activity; we can see this by all the stuff they have been trying to do to get the YES vote... We can only pray that the 3 opposing council members quit their position and force a bi-election. Then we can start to save the town by voting more intelligent people in.

Toowoomba is the fastest growing inland city, and the TCC are gob smacked and have no idea what to do. Thorley damn well knew years ago we needed more dams, and if she did it then, we would need to drink our own shit.

She is being pressured by these US companies wanting RO in Australia, because they know if it is accepted here, they will make BILLIONS from other projects. Obviously Thorley has been offered a cut if she can get us to vote YES. I will vote NO, and the US can piss off with their RO and take it to a country that needs it. We are not a third world country where the water supply in need of treatment, we only need more council members with some BRAINS and not JELLY.

The council is about to be sued, they just need to ask some people and lawyers, I think the federal government would want to know why people are taking the city to court.. Think before you speak Thorley, I though you we're better than this, guess we got wrong.

This council is only interested in MONEY and ways to get it from US. We can see this be the INCREASED COUNCIL WAGES, CAT REGISTRATION, INCREASED RATES, UN-NEEDED OVERSEAS TRIPS, INCREASED PARKING FINES, EXPANSION OF PARKING METERS, POOR CITY PLANNING, shall I go on.

Cr Ramia needs to be examined by police for stating he will publicly humiliate water users; I bet he loves his SPA and HOT TUB every night.

The Mayor admitted at the public meeting last year organised by CADS that the council has known since 1993 about the water situation.

The advisors to the councillors also need sacking as they are doing the wrong thing by this city.

The building industry has already started to slow down. People are not prepared to invest money in Toowoomba.

How much ratepayers' money will need to be spent on the marketing campaign to rebuild Toowoomba's image as a place to live, visit and invest after Thorley is gone?
