Rathdowney landowners to meet over dam concerns
Landholders at Rathdowney, east of Warwick on the Darling Downs, are meeting tonight over concerns the Queensland Government could build a dam in the district.
The State Government says it will use money from the part sale of Ergon and Energex to investigate where a new dam could be built for south-east Queensland.
John Robinson from the No Dam for Rathdowney Action Group says there is growing concern that a site at Tilly's Bridge has been chosen.
"We just haven't been given any indication from the Government the size or the scope of the dam," he said.
Water Minister Henry Palaszczuk says information will be sent out about the proposal next week and a hot-line set up to inform residents.
He says a final decision on the dam site will be made within the next two months and has defended the Government's handling of the issue.
"What the Government could have done is not said anything until all the studies were completed and then made the announcement as a fait accompli," he said.
"We wanted to be up-front with the landholders and that's why we announced that we are seriously considering both these sites so that the landholders would know both those sites are being considered."
What's the bet that Premier Beattie has a pre-election back down over one or both of the dams he is proposing to build and then, post-election, says that if these people don't want the dams, they'll have to drink recycled sewage.
Is that the political game that's about to be played ...

I'm sorry to say this, but we need more dams, and people should be thankful someone is doing something about, instead of making us drink recycled SHIT.
These worried people should be concerned, but should not stop the dams being built, we need them, it's that simple.
They would be acting like this if faced with recycled sewage, or far worse, no more water from the tap.

5% of treated water is used as drinking water if people had more respect for the limited supplies they had, this situation would not have to be considered. A supply volume allocation based on the water storage reserves would make people responsible for thier own water usage.

If 3.7 million people is the governments forecast of the population of SEQ all could drink 10 litres a day that would be 37 megalitres per day or 13500megs per year, we have the drinking water you just have to learn how to not waste the rest.
