MP Copeland - where does Minister Palaszczuk stand ...

on drinking recycled sewage?

Comments by MP Copeland in State parliament yesterday. Minister Palaszczuk was caught off guard as is evident from his response:

MP Copeland - I refer to the proposal to add 25 per cent recycled sewage to Toowoomba's drinking water supplies. Does the minister agree with New South Wales Premier Morris Iemma, who said yesterday that he would not be putting recycled water into drinking supplies in New South Wales because "there are still unresolved issues with the health authorities", or does the minister support adding recycled sewage to the drinking water supplies of south-east Queensland including Brisbane?

Minister Palaszczuk - My understanding is that the New South Wales Premier is not looking at existing premises; he is looking at new houses about to be built so the question is based on a false premise.

See - Hansard - 9 May 2006.

Wrong answer. The NSW Premier has said that Sydney (existing developments and new subdivisions) will not be using recycled sewage for drinking purposes.

Minister Palaszczuk - you'll have to provide a better answer than that if you want to convince the people of South East Qld to drink recycled sewage ...

My God, how many people in our parliment have taken brides from these US RO companies. It looks like they have gotten to several of them. It's time we picked these people out and investigated their intentions, because to me, they are becoming criminals by taking any sort of offer to push RO technology.

The RO technology is not sinister - it will be used for the gas water in Dalby and Chinchilla.
What is a concern is what has gone on behind the scenes with the plan to force Toowoomba people to drink recycled water.
