Deputy Mayor Ramia - it's not the Mayor's project ...

More often than not the Council is now forced into the position of having to defend the Mayor (and her many recycled water promotion trips) and the Council's actions over its controversial recycled sewage project.

Excerpt from press release by Toowoomba City Council (annotated):

The Mayor, councillors, Council officers and members of the Water Futures Advisory Panel have been addressing the local community and encouraging residents to raise their concerns. [But the Advisory Panel has been disbanded.]

“We encourage people to ask questions. Our sessions are about information, not waving placards or booing or jeering,” Deputy Mayor Cr Joe Ramia said.

“We welcome civilised debate and all community groups, businesses and interested individuals are invited to request a presentation.” [But no public meetings where any real debate of the issue could take place.]

He refuted claims that the Water Futures project was ‘the Mayor’s project’.

“It is a Toowoomba City Council project and contrary to recent reports, the Mayor’s speaking engagements are not about self-promotion.

“These engagements are by invitation and reflect the significance and innovative nature of the Water Futures project and therefore the level of public interest.” [Most of the speaking engagements have been at water industry conferences.]
