Q. What is the status of the reverse osmosis plant for water disposal? How successful has it been?

MD Richard Cottee - The reverse osmosis plant has been extremely successful on a technical basis. The water produced is of high quality and we're now waiting to see whether or not we can get Federal government funding. Our hope is that with funding support, QGC can supply 100% of Chinchilla's water requirements for at least the next 10 years. But the water promises to be an asset throughout the region, for a variety of uses not requiring potable (drinking) quality.

So QGC gas water will provide sufficient potable water for all of Chinchilla's water requirements for at least the next 10 years plus be able to supply water for non-potable purposes in the region.

With Dalby receiving funding for its innovative use of gas water and the recycling of sewage for non-drinking purposes, the Federal government should be forthcoming with funding to enable Chinchilla to be "drought-proofed" ...
