What lies ahead ...

Simply more lies.

In today's Chronicle, Mayor Di "scare 'em silly" Thorley said that rates would have to go up 2% to cover the cost of the referendum.

Now, there have been various figures thrown out by Council about the cost of the referendum but this is the highest yet.

In Council's 2004-5 Annual Report, it states rates revenue as $70,022,000.

That amount has increased this financial year (as ratepayers will recall from the rates notices last September).

Even on the 2004-5 figures, 2% = $1,400,440.

Over $1.4 million.

Where does the Mayor get this figure from?

She just makes it up - toss out a large figure and try to scare the public.

What she doesn't realise is that people know that she has caused this referendum. Any cost is down to her!

If she was sensible, she would be looking at the other options. Instead, we have to go through the process of a referendum before serious thought is given to them.

If you are tired of the Mayor's lies (and her 2% rates increase threat is just another one), send her a message on polling day.

Just say NO - No more lies ...

Why does the Chronicle keep printing this misleading information?

Why don't they check their facts?

Our councillors should be made foot the bill for this referumdum.

They are the ones who have pushed this on the public without consulting them.

Look at the mess they have with the chinese restaurant in Bridge Street. Council officers recommended that they approve a real estate office go there. Instead they chose to reject it. Now a take-away chain wants to pull the house down and put in a concrete building. Now the councillors are admitting they should have approved the real estate office. What a mess! One has to feel sorry for the people who own the site.
