QGC still awaiting Turnbull funding nod ...

Gas firm still awaiting federal funds decision

The Queensland Gas Company (QGC) says it is still waiting to hear if it has received funding from the Federal Government to help boost Chinchilla's drinking water supplies.

The company is expecting the first sales of gas from its coal seam gas mine next month, well ahead of schedule.

Managing director Richard Cottee says QGC is ready to build a reverse osmosis plant to treat water from the mining process and pipe it to the town.

But he says $3 million is still needed from the National Water Initiative.

"We haven't heard from the Federal Government as to whether we've been successful in that application, but obviously we are reliant on that money to go ahead and we're putting in a fair amount of money ourselves," he said.

"It's not commercial in the sense of a money-making procedure. It's meant to be something that secures town water for many, for Chinchilla."
