About Me
- Name: Concerned Ratepayer
- Location: Australia
For many years, the 4350water blog has informed readers of plans by the Toowoomba City Council (now Toowoomba Regional Council) and the Qld government to introduce recycled water for drinking in Toowoomba. It has also looked at the issue from a State and Federal perspective and dealt with related State and Federal political issues. There continues to be a need for the Toowoomba Regional Council to be completely transparent in its dealings with the ratepayers and residents of Toowoomba. There also continues to be a need for open debate on the benefits and risks of potable reuse and long-term studies on the effects on humans of drinking recycled water. Coal seam gas water is emerging as a possible alternate water source for some uses for the region. The 4350water blog is a collective effort and thanks go to its many contributors.

Sunday Mail:
Public servants nickname Nicola Roxon over her temper
June 01, 2008 12:00am
RELATIONS between the Rudd Government and the federal public service have hit a new low with revelations senior bureaucrats have nicknamed Health Minister Nicola Roxon "Bi-polar Ni-cola" because of her behind-closed-doors displays of temper.
The leaking of the offensive nickname signals that parts of the federal public service – which has been pushed to breaking point by "24/7" Kevin – now regard themselves as being at war with Labor.
While senior Health Department bureaucrats are furious at their treatment by Ms Roxon, they also blame Mr Rudd. They say his obsession with micro-management of health policy means the department is log-jammed.
"Nicola won't move without his approval," one source said.
"She's terrified of making a mistake. The result is nothing gets done."
Bureaucrats say they don't object to the Rudd Government's habit of calling them in the pre-dawn hours for "urgent" briefings. However in the case of the Health Department, they say, they often hear nothing back for weeks, if not months.
"Roxon has no idea about how to deal with either her own staff or her department," one source said.
Sources were also critical of Ms Roxon's decision not to take departmental officers with her when she met stakeholders and interest groups.
Overworked public servants have deluged Canberra talkback radio, accusing Mr Rudd of making their lives "a nightmare".

Facebook ban for PM's staff
June 02, 2008
STAFFERS working in Prime Minister Mr Kevin Rudd's office and on his household staff have been asked to take down their Facebook websites.
The request follows the publication at the weekend of pictures posted on Facebook that were taken by Mr Rudd's executive assistant Mr John Fisher while he was travelling overseas with the Prime Minister.
A Senate estimates committee last week heard Mr Rudd employed him to travel with him overseas, although Opposition members claimed he was a butler.
