Taylor is a farmer who has been a Mayor of Jondaryan Council for over 20 years.
His credentials are outstanding and he has the most knowledge of local goverment of all the present canditates.
This City of Toowoomba has been divided by the present council and it does not need a new Mayor who will continue to try to divide and conquer

Taylor is in bed with the very State government who are bringing about the Amalgamations. He is the chair of that committee and as such is not looking after the interests of the people who he supposed to represent.

He's takem no notice of the 87% of his community or any other people who have made it quite clear that they did not want to be dragged into being part of a mega shire.

He is nothing more than a part time Mayor of a little shire having a tilt at the big time to get the big bucks and all the perks that he thinks goes with it.

We all deserve better and some one who will do the job full time.

Manners for Mayor has a nice ring to it.
I think he would have more experience in the Toowoomba Council than Taylor has had in all the time on his little part time role on a small shire Council.

Taylor seems to be promising to bring us more of the yes minister routine as he will bend and do the bidding of the State Government and never mind what the community wants.

What's Taylor's view on making people drink recycled water?

If he's been there for over 20 years, isn't it time for someone new to lead the region? It's time for change!

The question of recycled water in mains water needs to be put to every candidate.

I asked the question to Bill Cahill and he wouldn't answer me directly, said we need to look at all options. So after much discussion I came to the conclusion that he supported its use in mains water.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Go the big man!! You really can't go past Taylor can you? 20+ years experience in Local Government and not a single grey hair by the looks of it!! This man is a farmer and a city boy, labourer and company director, educated, down to earth and a natural born leader. This is exactly who we need at the helm …

How the heck is Taylor going to have time to be mayor when he's out farming and on other boards? He just won't have the time!

In response to 'why elect taylor' - I think you'll find that all mayoral candidates have a life outside of politics, including (surprise, surprise) other business / work commitments. To say that a political candidate "won't have time" due to current or previous work commitments is obviously a weak argument at best …

What's the real reason Taylor is running?

Hi Anonymous @10:18 PM, January 16, 2008

You make a few points but unfortunately you're a bit off the mark …

You say, "Taylor is in bed with the very State government who are bringing about the Amalgamations. He is the chair of that committee and as such is not looking after the interests of the people who he supposed to represent".

Well, someone had to be elected as Chairman of the Committee - from memory a number of the Mayoral Candidates were lobbying pretty hard for the position!! The fact that Taylor was elected simply demonstrates that he has the support of his peers and proven leadership qualities for the difficult role.

You say, "He's take[n] no notice of the 87% of his community or any other people who have made it quite clear that they did not want to be dragged into being part of a mega shire".

In fact, I attended several community meetings that were organised by Taylor which allowed locals all over the Shire to discuss the issues. He certainly seemed to be taking notice!!

You say, "He is nothing more than a part time Mayor of a little shire having a tilt at the big time to get the big bucks and all the perks that he thinks goes with it".

It's my understanding that Taylor is currently on the Executive of the LGAQ (i.e. peak body representing local government). During his tenure on the Executive he has previously been elected the senior Vice-President and Acting President of LGAQ . There are not many people in Queensland that could equal this level of expertise!

You say, "We all deserve better and some one who will do the job full time".

Well, I need not address this statement - it's simply naïve.

Yes but what's the real reason Taylor is running?

… most likely the same reason he's been in politics for the last 20 years - seems pretty self-evident to me.
