Commerce Queensland slams Toowoomba City Council ...
From WIN News:
Commerce Queensland slams Toowoomba City Council
Following their launch of the yes campaign, Commerce Queensland has today slammed Toowoomba City Council for washing their hands of any further water alternatives.
But the Mayor has hit back saying it's now time for the community to be provided with more education, which councillors can't do on their own.
Source - WIN News - Commerce Qld slams TCC.
Note - not more 'information' but more 'education'.
Meanwhile, Mayor Thorley skips off to yet another conference ...

If large cities like Paris can use recycled water with no fuss and no problems, why can't we? I'm sixteen and I'm sick of the older generation worrying so much about what they think and not realising the fact that we are the future. Not them! If the generation above me stuffs it up, it's okay for them because they're not the ones who will have to deal with the Gowrie Creek catchment area having absolutely no water whatsoever - it's us who are going to have to try and right the wrongs that you're making.
Stop worrying about the fact that you're going to have to drink the recycled water for the next twenty or so years you're alive and realise that the generation that's below you - the one who has to deal with the consequences of your actions - is largely saying YES to the Water Futures proposal.

Sorry Kimmy but Paris does not engage in planned indirect potable use.
There is no reason why Toowoomba should follow the "bad science" of unplanned indirect potable use.
Don't believe the Council's scare tactics - there is water and there are other water source options.
Also, Gowrie Creek dries up under Mayor Thorley's controversial project - the irrigators want to ensure that it continues to flow.
Should Thorley's plan go ahead, the next generation of ratepayers is most likely going to have to deal with increased rates to pay off the Council debt from mismanagement and cost blow-outs on the project and will need to find somewhere to put 600 hectares of evaporation ponds.
That will be the Thorley legacy.
Good luck.

Saw the deputy mayor downtown yesterday. Looked very surly - can't be having fun at the moment. Are the authorities looking in dark places?!

I'm part of Kimmy's generation and I disagree with her. We have a mayor out of control - she thinks she's a dictater. If I could vote no way I would vote yes.

Yes, and now she has spent our money, they're going to sit back and basically ignore anything to do with the subject now.
Thorley and her gang of pooper scoopers know they are fighting losing battle and have totally stuffed up by getting Toowoomba left out the new water scheme proposed by Beattie.
We're not lab rats Thorley, we're Humans and we know when something stinks, and the TCC isn't smelling pretty good these days.

Sorry kimmy, i'm 17 and I think drinking cleaned up sewage water is digusting, besides it's not just that, our council lied, used the rate payers money for a subject that does not have support.
I want kids, and I don't want them to gorw up here drinking something that is not currently used in such large scale or has been proven safe for long periods.
You must be blind, no where in the world uses 25% or recycled water for DAM use. SIngapore has the highest, 1.8% I think, and they have FAR more people then we do, why 25%, you gotta wonder.
Even if it is safe, the mayor jumped the gun without even consulting the people, and that's what it's all about know, she knows it and has to live with it.
You can join thorely when the people run her out of town.
If I could vote, I would vote NO, because the mayor lied and is still doing it.

There is one thing you forgot Kimmy. All us oldies could go on with our merry lives not giving a shit about the younger generation and just drink our lovely bottled spring water. It is because of you that a lot of us oldies have become properly informed on this issue and will be voting no. Please do not equate short term solutions with a longer equation.

Actually Kimmy you are not very well informed are you? Under Water Futures we will be using 25% of our wastewater for drinking, another 25% will go to Hampton farmers, 25% to the Acland mine and I do believe we already give 17% to the Millmerran Power Station and I do believe that at least 3% to 5% will be lost in evaporation. So essentially that means that Water Futures will dry up Gowrie creek almost completeley. So much for your hypothesis! Why do you think the Gowrie Creek irrigators are so up in arms against this project, it leaves them virtualy no water to use and I do believe TCC is planning on using our city creek water to keep there lovely new west creek revitalisation scheme grass green as well.

If Mayor Thorley would only come out and actually speak to her people at a public meeting we may get her to tell us the truth.
This Water Futures plan dose not save us from this current drought and we will still be on restrictions i.e. YOU WILL NOT BE WATERING THE PRECIOUS PLANTS OR WASHING THE CAR. Not until the dams are 40% full and if you believe the dooms dayer's at the council when they say that may never happen and we will just get more recycled sewage into our home just so they can send it out to the new industrial development at Kingsthorpe. This is not about bringing water to the regular rate payer.
Who is really behind this crazy scheme? CH2M Hill is a BIG American company and it wants in on the market to sell membrane technology in our country.
I say vote NO on the 29th July and bring a brighter future to our children.
Keep the information flowing!
