SEQ recycled water - Bligh government should realise their responsibility to the people outweighs all else ...

With the revelation that the Qld Health Dept has been kept in the dark on the health aspects of the SEQ recycled water project and the seriously damaging news that Qld Health has no idea how much hospital waste is poured into the sewers to be recycled and piped into people's homes, the Bligh government must now immediately postpone any plans to pour recycled water into Wivenhoe Dam.

The Bligh government has indicated they are already part way through their so-called testing of the recycled water but it now emerges that they starting to consider how much hospital waste goes down the sewers.

This aspect should have been considered BEFORE any commitment was made to proceed with plans to use recycled water for potable use.

It would be highly irresponsible to now proceed with plans to pour recycled water into Wivenhoe dam early next year.

The State Opposition should immediately call for an inquiry into the issue of hospital waste in recycled water.

It is clear that the Bligh government has no answers on this issue.

4350water blog notes the marked increase in Brisbane visitors to the blog.

You have the opportunity to press the Bligh government to do what is responsible in these circumstances.

Brisbane dam levels are currently around 40%.

There is no urgency to pour recycled water into Wivenhoe dam.

Particularly when the Bligh government does not know how much hospital waste is dischaged into the sewers.

Don't waste the opportunity ...

This statement has to be read by as many people as possible.

The call to action must go out and only then will the Bligh government take notice!

Smithy on 4BC was talking about this issue "on air" yesterday (4/11/08) with nearly ALL callers NOT in support of the governments plan to add "sewage" water to the drinking water of SEQ.
