SEQ water grid problems continue - stuff ups over-chlorinate Brisbane residents ...
Excerpt from Courier Mail:
Brisbane residents get chlorine-heavy water
7 August 2008
Thousands of residents in Brisbane's western suburbs have been supplied with heavily chlorinated drinking water because of a stuff-up during the construction of the Southern Regional Water Pipeline.
Brisbane City Council alerted residents to the problem in a statement issued last night, August 6, but said there was "no health risk to the public".
The statement went on to blame the State Government-owned company Linkwater, saying it had "accidentally discharged water with higher than normal chlorine levels during construction on the Southern Regional Water Pipeline, downstream of the Cameron's Hill Reservoir."
A council spokesperson said the BCC would today seek urgent talks with the government to "improve interagency reporting requirements".
Affected areas include Bellbowrie, Anstead, Kenmore, Pinjarra Hills and surrounding suburbs.

BREAKING NEWS
Recycled water failure - Brisbane water supply contaminated
10 June 2010
A failure at the Bundamba recycled water plant has contaminated the water supply of many of Brisbane's western suburbs.
The plant failure occurred at least 10 days ago but so far the public has not been notified.
An Opposition spokesman said that the legislation enacted by the State Government in 2008 meant that there was no obligation to notify the public when a failure at a recycled water plant occurred, even if this meant possible health risks to Queensland residents.
The Bundamba recycled water plant, part of the SEQ water grid, uses a multiple barrier approach to cleaning sewage water prior to its distribution to consumers. Sources from within the plant have indicated that the recent power outages in southeast Queensland coupled with the failure of backup generators allowed at least seven days worth of unprocessed sewage water to be fed into Brisbane's pipeline system.
The SEQ water grid was plagued with problems during construction and commissioning with the State Government blaming the short timeframe needed to complete the project. The Queensland Department of Health is responsible for ensuring the quality of the recycled water produced in Queensland.
A Queensland Department of Health official refused to comment.
More soon.

The Northern Pipeline Inter-connector (NPI) is a drought contingency project that will provide the capability to transfer 65 megalitres of water per day from the Sunshine Coast to areas of need in South East Queensland. The NPI will be developed in several stages and will also link existing and potential future water sources throughout the Sunshine Coast.
The project is being developed by the Southern Regional Water Pipeline Company Pty Ltd trading as LinkWater, a wholly government-owned company. LinkWater is also developing the South East Queensland Water Grid, which includes the NPI.
The proponent has engaged the Southern Regional Water Pipeline Alliance to construct this project.
The alliance is made up of KBR, McConnell Dowell and Abigroup.
