Election vote count - Deputy Mayor dummy spit - "My life is on hold" ...

Excerpt from ABC News:

Council candidate criticises vote count delay

20 March 2008

A candidate for the Toowoomba Regional Council says it is "deplorable" that counting of votes from the weekend's election is taking so long.

Former Toowoomba deputy mayor Joe Ramia is currently ninth in the poll to elect 10 councillors, but only 36 per cent of the roll has been counted.

He says results will not be known until after the Easter break, and those contenders grappling for the last five spots have had to put their lives on hold.

"You look around Queensland and you see how other cities and shires have got their votes the latest maybe Saturday night or Sunday morning and you've got to say why has it taken this long? ... I don't know why, I really don't," he said.

Returning officer Robyn Lowien says the Toowoomba count is taking longer than other larger regional and metropolitan centres because it is an 'unsubdivided' council and there are 36 names on each ballot paper.

See - Ramia whinge - my life is on hold.

Gee Joe, did you really have anything better to do over Easter ...

At least candidates such as Rosemary Morely and Ron Berry can start to plan their lives, knowing that they will not be on council...

Is that "Morley" and "Rob" Berry?

So can Candidates Sharp, Frizzell, Statham, Schuster, Elvery, Ledbury, Huxley, Dean, McCarthy, Beer, Alroe, Michael, Graham, Fitzgerald, Barron, Sorensen, Dhann and Stark and probably Candidates Sullivan, Englart and Yeates.

The rest will have to wait to see who will win the minor placings.

Who cares about Joe.

He has enough money to get on with his life. Now he knows what it is like when you have to wait to see if you job is still secure or if you are going to lose it.

Poor Joe, should we take a collection up for him? I guess he doesn't have Di's shoulder to cry on. Oh the poor 4 pack!

If Joe does scrape through, he's going to find it a different world on council this time around.
