Done deal

A deal has been signed to pump waste water from the Wetalla Water treatment plant to the New Acland Coal mine.

After six years of negotiations between the Toowoomba City Council and New Hope Coal the contract will provide Acland mine with up to 3,000ML of water annually.

See - Acland Coal offtake deal.

Word on the street is that the irrigators are furious with the Council and threatening legal action and the Council is busy trying to back peddle ...

This council is pandering to the big end of town and it is only the start!!!
Thorley made this deal as soon as she lost the water poll..
It is only the start.
The halls of city hall are whispering that there is another deal in the works and we are not going to like it.

We have got to stick by the farmers.

The farmers have had this water to used and it was all done with handshake and goodwill.
It seems in this day and age that no longer counts and $'s speak louder than words.
Sure they are building a pipe line free to us but what pandora's box have this Council opened.
Next thing we will hear is that our $2.4M salty bore at Wetalla will also be feed into their line to the mine and we have been shafted again.
What is going to happen to the bore water currently being used by New Hope Coal?
Do they get to keep it too?

The big question this community needs to know is " What is to happen to that useless bore?"
"Do we get compensated for the cost or is it more money wasted by Mr Flanagan and the team?"

Mr Flanagan should resign over this bungle.

Why not make use of the salty bore - provided NAC is willing to pay us for it.

We have only their word for how salty the Wetalla bore is as it might be treatable for us in times of need.
This community do not trust Mr Flanagan and crew as it is impossible to imagine making such a mess of a bore and then go pay the driller in full before the results were in. It is not that they didn't have a clue of problems as it was a mess from the start. Remember this bore cost us $2.4M!!!! If that is not over priced I like to know what is.

There is still no real answer as to why the first GAB or sub-artesian bore had to be right there where the sewage works are situated. It beggars belief.

It smells of a cover up and Flanagan's head should have rolled only he had the 6 pack protecting his arse!

It does look very convenient - amazing how much the councillors and the engineer keep the people who pay their salaries in the dark. Guess it will all end next March.

I'm looking forward to the election when we can get all the stuff the council has done under the cover of darkness out into the open.

If the Wetalla bore is useless why try to fix it?

This comes from council's minutes (2/3 October)

2. Wetalla GAB Bore

By letter of 20 September 2007, the driller has confirmed that the slotted casing at the bottom of the hole is 273mm as specified. The driller has also advised that rectification of the depth of the slotted casing is to be undertaken as soon as possible.
