Outgoing Mayor's influence waning ...

In a clear sign that the outgoing Mayor's bullying grip on Toowoomba is almost over, Jondaryan Mayor Peter Taylor will head up the transitional committee for the amalgamation of Toowoomba with the surrounding shires.

Local Govt Meeting Begins

Peter Taylor the man for the top job.

Jondaryan Mayor Peter Taylor today fought off opposition from his Clifton counterpart to land the high-profile position of Transitional Committee chairperson.

It could be seen as the launching pad for his bid to become Mayor of the Toowoomba Supershire.

See - Toowoomba's future looking brighter.

I just love the way the Win TV people put words into a person's mouth. At no time did Peter Taylor say he was standing as Mayor of the mega shire.
Good on you Peter you will do a good job with the committee and I hope you can keep a lid on Thorley as she thinks every-one wants to hear what she has to say at all times.

News for you Di, we just want to see you gone and maybe the community will get to the bottom of what you and the hangers on are up too.

It is a good launching pad for a possible future mayor - however, we know who have stuck their necks out on the chopping board for so long now

Hopefully after March next year the local ABC and Chronicle will be up to speed with what the people of Toowoomba really want

Taylor to chair transitional committee of our councils

28 August 2007

Incoming transitional committee chairman Peter Taylor will adopt an open door approach to bring together the eight councils to form the new Toowoomba Regional Council.

The Jondaryan Shire mayor was selected ahead of the lone other nominee, Clifton Shire mayor Ian Jones, with pre-prepared ballot papers at the first transitional committee meeting in Toowoomba yesterday.

"Even though people have been opposed to it (amalgamations), and the majority of councillors, including me, have opposed it, it's going to happen," Cr Taylor said.

Two delegates from each council came together offering goodwill.

Applications for an interim chief executive officer will be called from within the local council ranks.

The interim CEO will be the acting CEO for the new council for six months.

Cr Taylor said: "The job of the local transitional committee (LTC) is to put in place arrangements to allow an orderly and smooth transition with issues being raised with us like communities in far-flung areas, works programs, show societies, clubs and parks, libraries and water supplies and services - all of those things that people have been contacting us about.

"Not the least of it will be communication systems between the eight councils, finance systems, rating systems and a large number of staff to be brought together as one operation," he said.

Cr Taylor said the LTC would be heavily reliant of the CEOs, although they, like mayors and the councillors, will be out of jobs come March 15.

"The transition from local government to regional government can't happen without the support, knowledge and expertise of all of the CEOs," he said.

The next LTC meeting will be held at Clifton on September 3.
