Council amalgamations - fat cat salaries for mayors ...

Excerpt from the Courier Mail:

Fat cat salaraies for mayors

27 August 2007

Mayors of Queensland's biggest future councils would be Australia's best paid under a remuneration model from councils' peak body.

If adopted, top-tier council mayors would receive more than $200,000, with additional perks such as cars, phones and out-of-pocket expenses determined at the discretion of individual councils.

The Local Government Association of Queensland this month sent a submission to the yet-to-be-established Local Government Remuneration Tribunal outlining their case on councillors' pay and conditions.

Under the model, the tribunal would categorise Queensland's future 73 councils on a scale of one to six depending on their size and population.

Category one mayors would be paid the same as a State Government cabinet minister – currently $204,884 – while second-level mayors would be paid 80 per cent of the rate ($163,907).

Councillors in the top tier would be paid half the rate, $102,442.

With these salaries the Toowoomba people deserve better than what is there now!!!

Put Manners in Council!!

Cr Manners needs a team of people who can work together and understand the complexities of the water problems we face.
This Council would have to work with the people not ignore they pleas to be heard over their objections to using recycled sewage water in the drinking supply.

I'd be happy with the new mayor earning a lot if he'd listen to the community. That'd be a change.

The outgoing Mayor is putting every thing into pushing through a recycled sewage plant. I think she is out of her depth and no where to sent the waste stream.
If they think they had a fight on their hands last time just watch and see.

The only thing Thorley will achieve is an angry electorate. She doesn't care because she's off to greener pastures. She'll leave all her fellow Yes councillors twisting in the wind (and out of office!)

As I thought - where is the so-called savings on getting rid of smaller shires and the good folk that used to run them. Peter Beattie must go!

Rudd is a dud
