Redwood California - recycled water rescues long dry summer ...

... yet another place in California which does not use recycled water for drinking.

Excerpt from Bay City Wire News:

Redwood City: First Gallons of Recycled water flow to Customers

29 June 2007

In a significant move that could help save water during a long dry summer, Redwood City today announced the first delivery of recycled water to customers.

The first gallons of recycled water are, as of Thursday, flowing to the first commercial customers, including Sofitel San Francisco in Redwood Shores, according to a Redwood City statement.

The city expects to save about 900 acre-feet of drinking water annually by using recycled water for industrial and irrigational purposes.

Every gallon of recycled water is a gallon of fresh water saved for drinking.

Redwood City first used recycled water on a trial basis in 2000 to deliver water to limited areas of public and private land for watering median strips and landscaped areas.

The recycled water also reduces the dumping of fresh water into the sensitive bay ecosystem, which can be affected by even clean fresh water.
