Outgoing Mayor says No vote was vote of no confidence ...
Toowoomba's outgoing Mayor was quoted on the ABC (as reported in the Courier Mail on 28 June) as saying that she had 'taken the anti-recycling vote [actually an 'anti-potable reuse experiment' vote] as a vote of no confidence in her leadership'.
Her resignation follows comments made 11 months ago that she and her councillors would stand again in the 15 March election despite the strong "no" vote at the referendum last July.
You can listen to her here - outgoing Mayor post-referendum comments - blaming everyone but herself for losing the referendum.
Perhaps that was a rare moment on honesty creeping in on the ABC ...

Regardless of the reasons for leaving and the backflip, she's going and that's great news for Toowoomba.
It's time to heal the divisions caused by her time as mayor and get on with linking to the water sources she refused to consider.
Toowoomba could never move ahead with water solutions while she remained mayor. With her gone these options can be genuinely considered by a new council.
Bring on March 2008!

On Win news to-night they tried to tell us that 60% of the community think she did a good job. Strange figure that one as it is exactly the reverse of the water Poll. I think there was a fiddle of the figures.
Every person I meet is so excited that she made this decision and we get the chance to vote in a good team of people to lead us into the future and stand up to Beattie and his crazy plans.

She did a good job of ruining her political career.
