Thinking outside the square - grass that thrives on seawater ...
Excerpt from Sydney Morning Herald:
Grass that thrives on seawater
28 March 2007
Imagine if you could water your lawn with sea water. Forget the restrictions - feed your turf with surf.
Well, imagine no longer.
A grass that thrives on sea water is about to arrive in Sydney.
And a Windsor turf farmer, Greg Miller, would love to sit down with the Premier, Morris Iemma, and tell him all about it.
...
It would be a symbol of his industry's commitment to water conservation because the grass would not need a drop of the plant's precious product.
...
But sea water can be used only when the grass is grown on porous soils that will allow the salt to drain away.
Mr Miller said the product's greatest potential was for golf courses, parks and playing fields along the coastal strip where there are sandy soils and easy access to sea water.
