Beattie keeps Councils off balance ...
First it was the threat to take water infrastructure assets, now Beattie pushes on with Council amalgamation plans - now threatening to implement them before March next year.
See - Courier Mail - Councils face reform bombshell.
Is the game plan - hand over your water assets or I'll amalgamate you and half the Councillors will be out of a job ...
1 Comments:
Seems a tough task to conduct a 3 month review (May-Aug) and then to implement the reforms (i.e. amalgamate the Councils with all the ancillary changes and staff cuts) by September.
Interesting that a director of Devine Ltd is on the Inquiry Panel. Look out Noosa!
Excerpt from the Courier Mail:
The inquiry will be headed by former Electoral Commissioner Bob Longland, and will also include former Labor Local Government Minister Terry Mackenroth and Di McAuley, who was Local Government Minister in the Borbidge government .
Former Liberal leader Bob Quinn and Sir Leo Hielscher, chair of the Queensland Treasury Corporation, will also sit on the inquiry.
The inquiry will have three months to make recommendations with reforms to be implemented by September.
