The politics of recycled water ...
Single-handed, PM Howard has killed off the NSW Liberals chances (however slim) at March's NSW State election with the following comment:
Mr Howard predicted NSW Premier Morris Iemma would renege on his promise not to introduce waste water recycling if he won the March state election.
And he said state opposition leader Peter Debnam would do the same should the Liberals win.
"Well, he'll do it; if he wins he'll do it," Mr Howard said of Mr Iemma on Southern Cross Broadcasting.

Excerpt from SMH (the politics of water!):
NSW ALP calls Debnam a water puppet
30 January 2007
NSW Opposition Leader Peter Debnam has a secret plan to introduce recycled drinking water after next month's state election, according to the state government.
Mr Debnam's office has denied claims he would introduce recycled water to the NSW drinking supply after the March 24 election, but Water Utilities Minister David Campbell said the prime minister said Mr Debnam had agreed to the move.
Mr Campbell said John Howard's assertion that Mr Debnam would support the move showed he was the prime minister's puppet.
"He said he will," Mr Howard said of water recycling.
Mr Debnam's office on Monday denied the claim, saying he would maintain his rejection of recycled water and would do so after the March 24 state elections.
But Mr Campbell said Mr Debnam had been exposed for having a secret plan to introduce the recycled water if the NSW Liberal Party won the election.
"This is more proof that the prime minister is pulling the strings and his puppet Peter Debnam will do or say whatever Mr Howard tells him to," Mr Campbell said in a statement.
"He'll sacrifice the wishes of the people of NSW for his political masters.
"Debnam's failed to stand up to Canberra on Work Choices, the GST rip-off, interest rates and petrol prices.
"Now he has no solution of his own on water but has secretly agreed with Canberra that he'll introduce recycled drinking water if elected."
NSW Premier Morris Iemma has emphatically rejected such a measure to battle the state's continued drought.
