About Me
- Name: Concerned Ratepayer
- Location: Australia
For many years, the 4350water blog has informed readers of plans by the Toowoomba City Council (now Toowoomba Regional Council) and the Qld government to introduce recycled water for drinking in Toowoomba. It has also looked at the issue from a State and Federal perspective and dealt with related State and Federal political issues. There continues to be a need for the Toowoomba Regional Council to be completely transparent in its dealings with the ratepayers and residents of Toowoomba. There also continues to be a need for open debate on the benefits and risks of potable reuse and long-term studies on the effects on humans of drinking recycled water. Coal seam gas water is emerging as a possible alternate water source for some uses for the region. The 4350water blog is a collective effort and thanks go to its many contributors.

Interesting to see Mayor Thorley on Channel 10 news tonight pleased at the 'survey - Beattie advertorial' results showing 70% support drinking recycled sewage. Obviously nothing better to do on Boxing Day.
Curious timing for the survey release - in the quiet news period between Christmas and New Year. A survey of 1200 people across Australia. Hardly representative of those who will vote on 17 March.
And Ian Kiernan saying that raw sewage should just be poured into the dams and then treated along with the dam water before going to people's homes. No RO process at all. What would the scientists say about that?
So far the Yes campaign is being very predictable. The Toowoomba City Council game plan repeated for SEQ step by step.

... with the exception of Kiernan's loopy idea that is.

We have said NO already and now that Beattie is going to have a go at cloud seeding the good people in the rest of the S/E Qld. will realize that there is OTHER OPTIONS!!
This recycled sewage water scheme will not be ready until 2009 and it is stated quite clearly by the QWC that it is not to be considered to be the solution to save us from this drought.
All the people have to do is
THINK ABOUT IT and vote NO in March!

It seems that the Mayors in the South East area have signed off on a pact . They will not enter into the debate about the use recycled sewage water in the drinking supply which will be voted on in March 2007.
I find this turn of events incredible but I do understand where they are coming from as they know they are the first cab off the rank with elections in 2008 and do not want to loose their seats THEN!
The by-election in a Council seat in Toowoomba showed that the a strong No Case candidate won by a country mine!!!

The Mayors don't want to share Thorley's fate in 2008. It would be amazing to see a clean sweep of the Mayors in SEQ at the next election - probably a first anywhere.

And there's Beattie today lecturing Victoria - 'learn from us on water', says Beattie.
Amazing.
Build no dams or other infrastructure until it's almost too late. And then try to force the SEQ residents to drink recycled sewage water.
One thing Victoria is NOT in favour of is recycled sewage water for drinking purposes.
Imagine they will tell him to fix his own backyard before lecturing them.
