Toowoomba Water Supply Task Force looks at options ...

From Saturday's Chronicle:

Toowoomba Water Supply Task Force

The Task Force invites submissions on additional options for securing future water supplies from Toowoomba and surrounding areas.

The options already identified include:

- Accessing groundwater from the Condamine alluvium
- Oakey Creek groundwater
- Recycling for non-potable uses to offset existing potable supply
- Increased access to the Great Artesian Basin
- Increased access to the Toowoomba basalt resource
- Obtaining supply from existing dams including Coolmunda, Wivenhoe or Boondooma
- Supply from new dam proposals
- The treatment and piping to Toowoomba of Western Downs coal seam gas water.

Have your say!

If you would like to make a written submission on any additional options the Task Force would like to hear from you.

Submissions should be sent to the Task Force at the following address by Friday 17 November 2006:

Executive Officer
Toowoomba Water Supply Task Force
Department of Natural Resources and Water
PO Box 318
Toowoomba Q 4350

Telephone enquiries may be made to Phil Sternes on 07 4688 1045.

So, there ARE other options!

Where would we be now if this approach had occurred in July 2005 ...

This Beattie Task force could get on and bring water to the people of Toowoomba if they were prepared to settle for an option that the No team have put forward, but that is not going to happen!

This is all about politics and they must be seen to WIN even if we pay through the neck for water!
We can not be in the "crisis" the Council portrays or they would have the artesian bore hooked up now!
This Thorley lead Council is all about punishing the citizens of Toowoomba because they did not blindly go along with her plan.

I give you this scenario, if we were sitting in the dark with candles because they rationed the electricity we would march in the street against the government but because it is about water or the lack of it we are supposed to believe this lying Mayor and not say anything.
Her track record for stretching the truth is appalling.

The people should be up in arms and should demand that the bores come on line and we be allowed to water the gardens at least with buckets.
Come on Toowoomba people, get angry!!!!

New Qld Cabinet changes:

Kerry Shine moves to AG - so will no longer be responsible for water and the Toowoomba Water Supply Task Force.

Backbencher Craig Wallace becomes Minister for Natural Resources and Water and will be in charge of the Toowoomba Water Supply Task Force.

All this on the same day Deputy Premier Bligh announced changes to the proposed Traveston Dam - 16 properties which had been acquired by the Government would now be offered back to their former owners as they were no longer required.

Unbelievable!

I think the people should be very concerned about the Government's intentions as it seems they are more worried about having meetings when key players who support the No case are not available.
Last time it was Mr Berghofer who was not there because he was recieving his award, now it will be Ken Murphy and John McViegh!

(Kevie) Flannagan should tell the community that the underground supplies are serving us well and that this City will NOT run out of water, but he and Thorley are about scaring the people to serve their own end.
