About Me
- Name: Concerned Ratepayer
- Location: Australia
For many years, the 4350water blog has informed readers of plans by the Toowoomba City Council (now Toowoomba Regional Council) and the Qld government to introduce recycled water for drinking in Toowoomba. It has also looked at the issue from a State and Federal perspective and dealt with related State and Federal political issues. There continues to be a need for the Toowoomba Regional Council to be completely transparent in its dealings with the ratepayers and residents of Toowoomba. There also continues to be a need for open debate on the benefits and risks of potable reuse and long-term studies on the effects on humans of drinking recycled water. Coal seam gas water is emerging as a possible alternate water source for some uses for the region. The 4350water blog is a collective effort and thanks go to its many contributors.

Final counting for the night:
Snow Manners - 13,819 votes (29.2%)
Hugh Rose - 6,343 votes (13.4%)
Gary Love - 5,176 votes (11.0%).
This sends a pretty loud message to the other Councillors.
Interestingly, the 8th highest vote was Informal (1,808 people).
Also, it looks like over 19% of registered voters didn't bother to vote (although there are still some postal votes to be counted).
Were people tired of turning out for polling days?
Add the no shows and the informals together and it's about 22-23% lost votes.

Does this mean that 6,343 people in Toowoomba do not believe in democracy but they voted?

When a Council and the returning officer did such a lousy job of tell the people that there was a by-election then there was always going to be a low voter turn out.
The Mayor should take hold of her job and tell the people that there was a vacancy and not resort to the whisper campaign to try and get her favorite one in.
That being the case, she should well and truly start to worry as the community do not support her and she will be gone at the next election.
Thorley has to start to mend the reputation of this wonderful city and start telling the rest of Australia that we do not drink recycled sewage water. We have reports from all corners of the country that the people think that this is true. Every thing should be done to undo this bad press.

When the Mayor's choice can muster only 11% of the vote and third place, it tells you that the community is not happy with the current group of Councillors and the direction in which they have taken Toowoomba over the past two years.
