Council project campaigner - I'm taking my bat and going home ..
Seems someone didn't like the Commerce Queensland press release on Friday.
But what did it really say - we need to look at the other options - nothing much more than that.
So it's a bit odd to take offence and accuse the Water Facts group (of which Commerce Queensland is a member) of unworkable bias.
With the disbanding of Council affiliated group Pure H20, this self-proclaimed saviour of the Council's controversial recycled sewage project is now running under the banner of H20. (Dropping the "Pure" may be in recognition that 30 mgs/L gets through the membranes. Perhaps a more appropriate name would be "H20 and some crap".)
Anyway, he accuses the Water Facts group of being fatally flawed - stacked with people with vested interests - and he won't respond to an invitation to provide his (group's) views. (He was never actually asked to join the committee.)
He would prefer people to be nominated to the Water Facts committee from the community - perhaps by Rotary. And therein lies his bias. Pure H20's ill-fated petition gained some momentum (before dying) through members of one of the Rotary clubs in Toowoomba. Now he wants that group to choose members of the Water Facts committee. How convenient.
What the Council's campaign spokesman fails to realise is:
- Water Futures will not solve Toowoomba's current water problems - Council's Head of Engineering Services Kevin Flanagan has confirmed this.
- Water Facts was formed by a number of groups which wished to go beyond the "we want to drink recycled sewage/we don't want to drink recycled sewage" debate and look at all the options.
The now disbanded Pure H2o talked about wanting the Council to look at all options but really wanted recycled sewage for drinking introduced into Toowoomba. A quick glance at their website showed that. (Although shut down, you can still see the content by putting in a search term.) They dismissed coal seam gas water as toxic. Perhaps someone should tell the towns of Chinchilla, Dalby etc. before they start drinking it.
The debate has moved beyond Water Futures. Some people just haven't realised it ...
See - Water Facts accused of bias.

The Chairman of Water Facts seems very biased in favour of drinking recycled water.
