About Me
- Name: Concerned Ratepayer
- Location: Australia
For many years, the 4350water blog has informed readers of plans by the Toowoomba City Council (now Toowoomba Regional Council) and the Qld government to introduce recycled water for drinking in Toowoomba. It has also looked at the issue from a State and Federal perspective and dealt with related State and Federal political issues. There continues to be a need for the Toowoomba Regional Council to be completely transparent in its dealings with the ratepayers and residents of Toowoomba. There also continues to be a need for open debate on the benefits and risks of potable reuse and long-term studies on the effects on humans of drinking recycled water. Coal seam gas water is emerging as a possible alternate water source for some uses for the region. The 4350water blog is a collective effort and thanks go to its many contributors.

Four projects in New South Wales worth $70 million will receive more than $17 million from the Australian Government's Water Smart Australia programme.
The Australian Government is providing $6.61 million as part of a total investment of $37.76 million to ensure sustainable future water supplies for the rapidly growing Gosford-Wyong and Hunter regions. This will be achieved through the construction of a pipeline that will enable water transfers between the systems, making better use of these water resources.
The Australian Government will invest $7.39 million in a $22.16 million project which will result in 33 NSW Regional Water Utilities, coordinated by the Water Directorate, recovering up to 15 000 megalitres of water a year by better identifying, prioritising and undertaking on-ground work to reduce water leakage across council owned town water systems.
A $5.64 million stormwater harvesting project in the centre of Chatswood to reduce potable water consumption in the Civic Place development by 81 per cent, compared to standard practice, will be supported by an Australian Government grant of $1.88 million. Stormwater discharge to local creeks and Middle Harbour will also be reduced by 14 per cent as a result of this project.
The Australian Government will also invest $1.5 million towards a $4.96 million project towards for the extension of a reclaimed effluent system for irrigation and non-potable household use around a housing estate in Albury.

There has also been a lot of community organisations in and around Toowoomba - schools, sporting clubs, bowls clubs etc that have been successful in obtaining grants from the Federal Government - these can be found on this website www.communitywatergrants.gov.au
Who can apply for a Community Water Grant?
A wide range of groups can apply.
Local governments
Schools
Indigenous organisations
Community groups such as:
environmental groups
rural organisations
sporting associations and social clubs
community-care sector such as hospitals, nursing homes and childcare centres
regional natural resource management bodies.
These organisations need to be congratulated on doing this to help conserve our precious water. Why hasn't our local media applauded all of these organisations?
There is also more funding available. Grants are upto $50 000.

TCC's plan is not supported by the community, will not solve Toowoomba's water crisis, will decimate Gowrie creek below Wetalla and is being used as a revenue raiser. I wouldn't fund it even if I did support potable use of recycled effluent.

Where are all the signatures Pure H2O were going to present in parliament yesterday?

For a group which said they wanted to look at all options, they quickly dismissed the others and focused on supporting the Mayor's project.
With the formaton of Water Facts which proposes to look at all options, they have been marginalised.

There has been an amazing mid-game switch by the council and its supporters when it turned out their membrane info was wrong.
