Jondaryan Shire takes swipe at Mayor Thorley ...

Comments in the Toowoomba Chronicle today by Jondaryan Shire Council Mayor Peter Taylor in relation to a survey of residents views on using recycled sewage for drinking:

"This survey was about involving people in the whole process from day one," Cr Taylor said.

"If this had happened in the Water Futures Project, we wouldn't have the problems Toowoomba is now facing."

The Jondaryan Shire Mayor also believes that it wasn't councillors' role to tell locals "what's good for them".

That's precisely what Mayor "drink it or be damned" Thorley thinks. She wants to tell Toowoomba ratepayers what she thinks is good for them and to hell with them if they don't like it.

It's interesting that the Jondaryan Shire Mayor thinks the lack of community involvement has created problems with the Toowoomba Water Futures project.

The Jondaryan Shire survey showed overwhelmingly that shire residents do not want to drink recycled sewage.

Toowoomba City Council has continually refused to conduct a similar survey of Toowoomba residents, fearful that it would confirm what many in the community already know.

With a substantial proportion of the communities of Toowoomba and the surrounding region against Mayor Thorley's controversial recycled sewage project, it seems impossible that it could ever get the community support it needs to get off the ground ...

Why would any-one take notice of a person is so badly behaved. I think kissing young sailors at a function to celebrate the opening of the city for the naval ship Toowoomba is totally inappropriate. She apparently arrived wearing evening cloths but quickly changed into a top one of the young men were wearing all day. There were photos taken of this lewd act with 4 crewmen and they will surface. This was the culmination of a day of this mayor thumbing her nose to protocol. She is said to have said "F--- them I will do what I f---ing well like in my city"

"F--- them I will do what I f---ing well like in my city."

This is pretty much the same attitude the Mayor has to anyone opposing the recycled sewage project.

It's not her city!

Thorley's conduct at that event was appalling. If that is how she approaches her duties, no wonder we are in such a mess with the water issue.

Can anybody say when the decision was made to sink a bore into the great artesian on the Wetalla sewage site? ( Calling for tenders for drilling into the great artesion advertised in the Courier Mail)
I am not privy to all the geograghics to the best place to do this bore but being on the site of the proposed recycled sewage has to be suspicious. How easy would it be to mix the bore water with the proposed water futures program (recycled sewage.) on the same site. Could council be planning to blend bore water with recycled sewage at Wetalla?
This bore water and down the track the recycled sewage combination would have to recieve further treatment somewhere, and I bet that is Mt Kynoch. That means a pipeline from Wetalla to Mt Kynoch. Refer to EIDN 1996 Page 8 2.1 2nd Par. Could this be the big new plan. It has to be a new plan because remember our council said the state government would'nt let them put bores into the great artesian. THERE ARE NO OPTIONS. Remember those words. Are we closer to direct potable reuse than we realize.

If that is the case, the councillors, the chief engineer and all their cronies can expect to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law for perpetrating a fraud on the community.

Take note TCC - start putting recycled effluent into Toowoomba's drinking water supply without getting community approval and expect criminal prosecutions and civil claims that will keep you in court for years and eat up your assets.

It raises the question of whether the Mayor has once again breached the new Councillor Code of Conduct.

Section 2.3.2.4 of the Code of Conduct for Councillors states:"Councillors must conduct themselves in a manner which will maintain and strengthen the public's trust and confidence in the integrity of the Council, ensuring that their actions do not detract from the integrity of the Council and avoiding any action which may diminish its standing, authority or dignity."

The dignity of the office of the Mayor seems to have been diminished once again.

Do you think the Mayor is oblivious to her conduct or do you think she knows she won't be mayor after 2008 and doesn't care if she brings the office into disrepute?
