Is Premier Beattie looking for ways to get re-elected?

On WIN News this evening, the following report:

Toowoomba won't run dry

Queensland Premier Peter Beattie has given assurances Toowoomba won't run dry if the Federal Government rejects the water futures project.

Mr Beattie confirming he's discussing water initiatives with the Mayor, and while he won't elaborate on the options, he says he does support the recycled water proposal.

See - WIN News.

Suddenly there are other options? What has Mayor Thorley being telling us?

Beattie says the other option will cost a small fortune.

Better than the big fortune Thorley plans to spend on the recycled water project - at least $70 million with another $66 million to dispose of the waste. That's $136 million.

Is that Beattie is talking about catching water just past Wytalla and pumping directly into the towns water supply. And the ratepayers having to pay for recycled sewage.

Who would ever trust the council or this State Govt again.

If Beattie's plan is to redirect water from Wetalla back into the town's water supply, it's no different from the Mayor's plan.

Expect plenty of protests.

Surely he is a little more astute than that?

He knows recycled water for drinking won't fly in Toowoomba.

It's an election loser.

Astute is not a word I would use for a Premier who supports a mayors plan to try and force the 100,000 odd residents of this city to drink recycled effluent against there will and then has a dig at the federal government for not being able make a decision as to whether to support it or not with funding. IDIOT would be a better description.
Perhaps he should start talking to the citizens here instead of crawling up Thorley's ...

The guy is a politician. He can spot a loser when he sees one.

He won't risk the voter backlash by supporting the mayor's proposal to the end.

If he does, he'll need another day job next year.

Beattie inspected the proposed Quarry Gardens with Thorley - that has to be the biggest potential water guzzler around!

What is the secret Plan B - and is he waiting for the Federal government to knock back funding before revealing it?

Why is it like pulling teeth to get information out of state and local government. Why can't we talk about plan 'B' yet?
As usual we are treated like mushrooms, kept in the dark and feed s--t. If Beattie wants to try and be our friend he needs to drop Thorley's idea right now, 100%.

We have the solution but it's a secret and we can't tell you yet - more political spin.
