Council still hasn't approved Water Futures project ...

As consideration is given to the numerous hurdles that the Toowoomba City Council must deal with as part of the Federal government funding approval process, don't forget that the Council has not yet approved the Water Futures project.

For several months (July-October 2005), the Mayor claimed the project had been approved by Council.

Then, in October 2005, she turned around on that story (sound familiar?).

On 19 October 2005, the Chronicle quoted her as saying (in response to a request for a referendum on the issue):"[a referendum] about what? There's no project until we get Federal funding. Once we get an answer [from the NWC], we have a project to sell."

So apart from the public debate on the issue, it still needs to be discussed and debated at Council meetings.

Should be some interesting meetings to attend ...

Yes, but as always they will be closed meetings, especially on this subject and only people that are for drinking shit water will be able to attend. Thorely say she will fight scare tactics and negativity, but she never allows us on council meetings and she has never gone public on a whole to discuss this with the Toowoomba people.

I also just finished reading the Water Futures Booklet.... once again we see all the positives and NO negatives on recycled sewage, if it's such a good system, then why doesn't everyone use it to purify their dam water.

On a couple of pages, it states how nature recycles water and how Thorely will recycle water, man played God once before and lost, now Thorely is going to play Mother Nature and will lose. If Thorely got her head out of her arse long enough, she would realise that recycled water by nature does not filter out chemicals and solids using a membrane filtration system,,,,, mother nature uses evaporation over a lengthy period and we all know that only H2O molecules evaporate into the air and recombine into clouds which produce rain. When scientist can duplicate that method, then I might think about drinking the water. I also don’t believe the shit that Toowoomba does not have enough industry and commercial to warrant recycled water for their use, rubbish Thorely. Even if it is only 30% (which it’s not) 30% saving is better then 0%. Industry should be forced to use recycled water for non food preparation applications instead of installing their own recycling system and continue to use dam supply, think Thorely.

The book also states the water will be level 6, better then dialysis water, but hang on dialysis water doesn't come from sewage, so why even compare the two and try and bullshit that it's better. I don't kidney patients would appreciate using thorely's water for their daily sessions.

Sit down and think what you're doing Thorely.

Thorley would take Toowoomba to the brink of ruin, requiring the State government to enact emergency powers to provide water alternatives - she cares nought for Toowoomba and its citizens - she only has this blind mission to make us drink recycled sewage.

It would be foolish to waste all that time setting up a referendum. We need a solution to our water problem now, not one that could be given a huge blow by the people of Toowoomba in a "NO" vote in several months time. TCC have hung onto there perception that there project would solve our curent water crisis. That time has long past and has proven to be incorrect. As the drought continues and our dams continue to drop then recycling water we use from them becomes less and less of a sound idea for drought proofing.
Even the small amount of water they would get from recycling will disappear as well.
It wouldn't be very intelligent of the TCC to continue down this path at the present time wasting valuable time while we have several chances to obtain water from other sources that would not be effected by the current drought.
