Toowoomba water access charge fallout continues ...

Brisbane City residents pay just $155 per annum to access water, $480 less than what Toowoomba residents will pay under the new access charges.

Brisbane ratepayers are charged $1.84 for every kilo-litre, Toowoomba city residents $1.50.

See - WIN News - Water charges.

Council is blaming the rate rise on the $187m Wivenhoe pipeline, the cost to maintain it, and the State government's withdrawal of the 40% infrastructure subsidy.

Kerry Shine said just like it is.
"They rejected recycle water and now they have to pay for this pipeline."
Why don't you stand up for your people Kerry?
The Brisbane area has had every thing paid for by the State Government which means we helped pay for that too but now we have to pay for our own pipeline.
This Council has not worked in our best interest as we have a right to good clean water at an acceptable price which is competitive with other areas.
People will leave in droves.
This is not right and we should refuse to pay the access fee!

The water access charge has been paid for by the land developer who had to pay for the network through headworks charges and was paid by the current landowners when they bought the properties.
The cost of maintaining that network is part of the price of water $1.50 or $2.80 per thousand litres.
The council is double dipping and we should not stand for it.

I would like Kerry Shine to please explain how much water we would have from a recycle plant and at what price it would be if he and the "yes people" had built their recycle plant at Wetalla in these conditions of a drought.
We are in a drought and on severe water restrictions so less is going through the sewage plant.

I am sure that people are upset and can not pay these prices.

How come Anna Bligh can build a FOOTBALL STADIUM and we have to pay for a pipeline to bring the necessities of life- (water)?
Where is the opposition on this one as it is not right in any-ones books?

Remember that there is nearly 3 years to go before you get to caste your vote to change any of them.
